Hellooooo again :) We have been busy busy again today and have a few photos to upload so thought we would do it now seen as we have a few spare minutes and there is internet at our hotel - love it!!
First off we visited Batu Caves - 272 steps (not the easiest thing we have done ha ha) it was quite cool and again the weather was lovely so going to see it was much better :) As no one from our hotel was on the same tour we had our own guide which was super cool - not that we really needed it at the caves but he drove us around to a few places so we could see malay culture!
Batu caves is just out of the city, when we reached the top (272 step) we could see the whole of the city which was cool (was quite a way away though) there were monkeys, bats and pigeons everywhere and we were told it was originally for an Indian worship area - every February Indians flock here apparently - there are a few temples there to which had crazy figures on top! At the top we were able to walk further into the cave and up yet more steps ha ha- it was as if it was raining in there (the drips from the caves) After the caves we headed on down to our driver and he took us to a pewter factory called the Royal Selangor Pewter - this was really interesting - we were told how pewter was made etc... we were given a little cup as we entered as soon as they filled it with juice the pewter cup got frezzing this was crazy but pewter is waaaaaaay to heavy and waaaaaay to much money haha so we didnt purchase anything!
The next stop was the Batik Printing Centre - Batik is a traditional Malay art - the designs are super cool, it is silk sheets with wax used to make the designs - freehand or stamp and then the ink is used to colour in the spaces (the wax is used to stop the colours running and also makes the design look good ) SJ bought a scarf - as it is free hand - no one thing will ever be the same!
After this we went to a chocolate factory - mmmmmmmmmm. we were shown how the chocolate is made from the fruits and cocoa beans in malaysia (cant remember what they are called ha ha but one totally reaked and didnt taste good either!!! the guy told us it smelt like hell but tasted like heaven - we did NOT agree with this statement ha ha)
Next stop was Kuala Lumpur Craft Complex, it was set in a huge building as if it was a typical Malay home, there were lots of things you could buy and try your hand at - SJ tried her hand at the Baltic painting which was so much fun... first she had to draw the design then the bloke showing us did the wax part and SJ used the ink to finish the design! There were art workshops there and some of the designs are put in huge frames and are beautiful - got the guys website and we will get one, one day he he!!
Well.... thats all for another day :) we are off to central Market and china town tomorrow to do some exploring and whatever else falls our way!! :)
love to you all
mmmmwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah
