Woke up about 8 30 and went down to enjoy a free breakfast before heading out. Ashamedly was using the tourist bus today, after 3 months have succummed! Best way to see lots in short time however. Has three routes, did the historical one first. saw the Palacio Real, Museo Reina Sofia, botanical gardens, Museo del Prado and lots of plazas. Next route not so interesting. was the modern one and saw mainly the commercial areas. Got to see the Santiago Bernabeu (Real Madrid stadium) however. Last tour, monumental one, I only did some of, it repeated eventually so got off at the Palacio Real. Got cheap entry again cos of student card, a third of the price! Very impressive building. Enjoyed wandering around and looking at all the highly decorated rooms. Just the walls were very detailed and ornate let alone the furniture. Throne room good, great chandeliers. Had the Real Farmacia as well, was the royal pharmacy and had three rooms full of jars and little drawers with all sorts of potions and herbs. really interesting. Also had the royal armoury, having seen Bedknobs and Broomsticks was a little unnerved by it all! Again a really interesting few rooms. First had life size horses done up for battle with soldiers on top, also had lots of sets of armour. Next room much of the same but more weapons. scariest bit was the Japanese armour, nasty masks that were enough to give a girl nightmares! Came out and decided to catch the metro up to the stadium. This time no discount and a huge 9 euros was charged- very overpriced but never mind. Went into the lift and went up to the top (ish) of the stadium. Got a great view over the stadium. met a guy called Frank who decided I was his photographer for the rest of the stadium, kinda useful as he became mine. Weird little dude tho. Came back down in lift and followed signs into the ground level of the stadium. Saw the presidential box (where they lift the trophies. Also saw the players benches (actually more like very comfy armchairs), coach area and players tunnel. Pitch felt very small but prob in comparison to the size of the stadium (football expert that i am!) Went into a replica of the dressing room, not allowed in the real one for privacy reasons. Had a nose around, all a bit swish really. Back onto the side of the pitch before going into the trophy room. None really meant anything to me but got to have a photo with the team (he he!) left and came back to hostel, finally losing Frank along the way. Had a little crash and used the net. Decided to leave the Reina Sofia as not that into art. Went for a wander and got some dinner in a crazy busy restaurant. Looked around El Corte Ingles before coming back to bed. Don't like to be out too late considering the district the hostel is in therefore was in bed at 9 30. Read a magazine and my book and tried to sleep. Room mate Joss (male) came in and we ended up talking for hours about random stuff as both of us were wide awake. Eventually made ourselves sleep about 1 30.
