Happy Birthday Gabriel!!
Woke up far too early considering the late night but got up anyway. Spent the day with Mal, Phil, Adelena and Kirsten. All went to the history museum, managed to get for free. Ticket guy asked if anyone was under 18, with a laugh I said I could be, with my pigtails he believed me. In some ways i hope he knew i was joking - looking 17 at 22 isn't the best thing! Museum was very intense, mainly about the aftermath of the war. Very interesting to see the other side but quite draining. Had amazing photos that could be upsetting. Had a series of one woman. in 1930 she was a healthy looking 25 year old. in May 1942 she looked thin and about 40 by October 1942 she was gaunt and looked about 70, very moving. I find it's the personal stories that affect me more so the museum was particularly tough. All of us felt the same so didn't manage too much more. Left museum and continued up road towards the Gate. Stopped off at market briefly. Got a quick sandwich for lunch and went to the Reichstag. The building has a glass dome on top which is supposed to symbolise the openess of the German government, interesting idea. Can climb in a spiral in the dome and look over the city. Not the best view but good enough for free! While up there found a newspaper with the Live 8 set list and found that Green Day were on soon. Prompted a mission to the concert. Walked down the streets amongst a sea of people. Got there about 3 20 and positioned near a screen. Unbelievable afternoon, on such a high. Unable to explain how it felt to be there, especially as unexpected and unplanned. One of the best experiences of my life, unforgettable. Saw Bap(?) and linked to London for Coldplay, Dido and Elton John. Audioslave came on stage and were really good. then came Green Day - sang and danced with thousands of others. last song was 'We are the Champions' - was unbelievable. Left about 5 30 as most bands were german and it was really hot so worried about the sun. Had salad at the hostel for dinner, yummy again. packed bag and went out for a bibble with Mal, Phil and Adelena. Really sad to be leaving them as done a lot together but will prob bump into them in Prague or later in the circuit. Went to bed about 11 30.
