On such a lovely day, I figured hat we would go snorkelling, but Neil said his legs still hurt from yesterday's hike, so we are going to visit Pearl Harbor instead. As it's a state park, entrance is free, you just have to pay to go on he submarine, the ship and there was something else. But we have come to visit the USS Arizona Memorial (the one in the opening sequence of Hawaii 5 0), which is free. The park is really well laid out with lots of areas offering information about the attack on pearl Harbor. Before you go across the the memorial, there is a 24 minute film, which again informs you about he attack, using real cottage from the time. The film is really good, well cut and very informative. Then you take a boat across the Harbor to re memorial. It was suck a sunny day, that tje whiteness of the memorial really shone out against the blue of the sky. The memorial is built over the remains of he USS Arizona, where it's crew are still entombed. So it does feel a little spooky, and kind of disrespectful to take photos of each other smiling. But the Mexicans in our group seemed to be having no problems with that. Indeed, neither did the Japanese tourists, strange that they would want to visit this bit of the island.
After looking at the other bits of ships and missiles around he park we headed back to Waikiki, along the coast road rather than the H1 for a change. Passing the Aloha tower and the Ala Moana Mall.
