My recent trip out to Parkes, Cowra & Forbes included a number of exciting activities. Plus sandbagging... LOTS of sandbagging :)
My trip started when Andy & Vicki picked me up on the way to central NSW. We headed up Mt Ousley Rd, only to find about 5 cars broken down and a truck that had been on fire! One of the truckies passing by made a comment on the CB radio that had us laughing for hours: "I've never seen so f***ing many cars broken down on such a short f***ing piece of road". Classic :)
On the way into Lithgow, we had a car spin out on the opposite side of the road, so we stopped and rendered assistance. An hour or so later and we came across a truck on its side that had smashed into a telegraph pole. The pole was now at a 45 degree angle!
The next day, we helped get some empty sandbags Parkes airport and onto a helicopter. Shortly after, we were airlifted ourselves to Cowra, where we then saw a flood boat get air-lifted in! We helped out with a tree job and sandbagging the next day.
A chopper ride later we were back in Parkes and we were told we were heading out to Forbes, now that the Parkes-Forbes road was open. Before driving off, we took some off-duty time to head out to The Dish for a visit.
Two nights in Forbes and we sandbagged again (this time with sandbagger machine - 60 bags in 16mins :) ), door-knocked Wongajong residents with evacuation order and made many trips to Forbes Iron Bridge to check water level.
I didn't even notice the myriad of mozzie bites till I got home :)
