“It’s brightening”
Yellowstone 15th June
After a hearty breakfast of eggs and bacon, we loaded the Subaru up and headed off.
The weather was ok but closing in toward the areas we were heading toward.
After driving through the town of Gardiner and crossing the 45th parallel, we entered the park through the NW gate and our first stop was
Mammoth hot springs. Here the rain started to come down pretty heavily but Not enough to interfere with our sightseeing.
we then went on what is known as the grand loop of the park, towards the town of Norris stopping at
Gibbons falls
Fire hole river
The grand prismatic geysers (really rainy and windy).
At the old faithful geyser, the rain started to move away and we saw the geyser go through it’s pulsating performce twice, separated by our lunch buffett at the old faithful lodge.
Carrying on to the West thumb of the Yellowstone Lake and on round to the the marina at bay bridge of the lake.
From here we went past the famous lake hotel, past the fishing bridge.
Then we stopped at the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, tower falls, past the road to MT Washburn ( which was closed due to snow)
We finished up going out through the north entrance through the Roosevelt gate and then back home passing a rodeo in Gardiner, for a grand total of 229 miles in 12 hours.
We were kept going by Jeff’s optimistic weather predictions of “its brightening” which eventually it did, and arriving back at the house, it looked like the rain had not touched this area at all.
Animals seen on our travels were....
Elk
Bison
Mule deer
Pronghorn antelope
A black bear
An osprey
Prairie dog
Crane
Coyote
Trout
Red fox
Coots
Redwings
Tomorrow we pack the RV, ready for the kick off of the grand tour....
