Wednesday 14th
Arrived back in Sydney today, weather was pretty hot and humid. Pretty uncomfortable with the growing back pack that seems to be getting heavier every day. After the bus dropped me off at Central Station I headed back to Town Hall where i got the bus back to Forestville. Fred very kindly picked me up from Woolies cos i didn't think i would survive the walk back in the heat! Surprise Surprise Danyelle Smells was there to pick me up to. It was so nice to see her again after sooo long. Hair was blonder and shorter than before but she was still the same.
Back at the house i just dumped my stuff in the room and got ready for dinner. I was starving and a table was booked early at Wok Bar in Dee Why for 4 of us. tonight was a ladies night out. Dinner was lovely and i got to meet Danyelles cousin who had just got back from Thailand and who hadn't really enjoyed the experience. None of the ladies were really drinking so we retired early back to the house and got the cossies on for a little swim.
D was straight in there, unfortunately the water was a little too cold for me so only my legs went in and then straight out, also the fact that i felt i was being eaten alive didn't help the situation. We stayed out chatting under the stars for a while and then it was time for bed, i was just knackered!
Thursday 15th
Up and out by 12pm today! Off to Sydney for a spot of shopping, my favourite! The bus dropped me off just outside the QVB building and off i went to all the shops. the sales were in full swing by this point and so it was no suprise to me when i popped into one shop - Supre that i ended up spending the best part of an hour or 2 in there! I ended up getting a lovely little pink number and a stripey blue and white dress for D's party, with the all important belt to go with it. It seems that with all the walking my shorts are a little on the large size and desperately needed the belt. The clothes in this place however could only best be described as the ideal shopping location for a 80's themed roller disco. it must be the fashion out here or something cos i have never in my life seen so much neon and strips and spots and so on. After spending only $80 i spoilt myself to a Chai Tea Late at a lovely little boutique coffee shop down
Back to the shopping, this time though to escape the downpour that hit (thunder and lightning and all). By about 6pm I heard back from Vanessa and i made my way to our dinner spot. She had chosen Cafe Sydney down on Circular Quay on the 5th floor of Customs House (www.cafesydney.com). The views were spectacular from up there, you could see the whole of Sydney Harbour Bridge all lit up, just breathtaking. Dinner was fantastic and I had a great time. Shame the same couldn't be said for the journey home, last bus on a Thursday was at 8pm so i took the train to Chatswood and Jordan picked me up. Only thing was that I happened to be on the train that experienced signal failure and we got stuck on a platform for at least 45 mins! luckily i had my new book to read!
Friday 16th
Today D and i decided to do a little bit of vintage shopping in Surry Hills/ Oxford Street. definitely not as busy as Oxford Street in London, but i have it on good authority that this place gets very busy once the shops close. we passed a couple of XXX shops (which seemed to be a plenty here) and then we found Crown Street, which for anyone coming over to Sydney should definitely visit. the shops were brilliant. D was in heaven especially when we stumbled across a shop called "Grandma Takes a Trip" (www.grandmatakesatrip.com.au). Further up the street were more and more shops, by this stage i couldn't control myself any more and i caved. In "Minty Meets Munt" (www.mintymeetsmunt.com) i bought myself some lovely sandals, a play on the old gladiator sandals but very tasteful!! Finally i have something else to wear other than my thongs! Shopping required a break so we went and grabbed some lunch at one of D's old haunts "Burgerlicious" (www.burgerlicious.com.au), the burger was great, as burgers go but i got to try something new..has anyone ever heard of chicken salt? hummm....well neither had i till today. it was actually quite nice and added a different flavour to the chips.
After shopping some more, D's mum picked us up in the car. Whilst crossing the road to the car i nearly got hit by another car...that nearly gave Lisa a heart attack as she watched from the other side. Woops. At home we chilled out, D went to see her nunna with Jordan and i just vegged! lots of fun after a hard days shopping i say. Later that evening D and i went over to Julia's house with some alcohol intent on a quiet night in (to save money). Well straight away a Toblerone concoction was made up using some unknown liquor and the evening officially started.
Saturday 17th
Woke up feeling surprisingly well, no hangover to report on luckily, though by the state of D's hair i don't think she could say the same! Today was pack up the suitcase and moving out day. Dee Why here i come!! Vikki was picking me up at 4pm today so i spent the rest of that morning packing and throwing stuff away. this was the 1st time i was genuinely shocked as to how much i had accumulated since arriving in Sydney back in Dec. Mum and dad be prepared to receive some mail...i have a feeling i will be posting stuff home or throwing it away! By the afternoon the family were starting to get properly ready for the party tomorrow and so i helped out as much as i could without getting in the way. By 4pm when Vikki arrived the heat outside was a little too much and i thoroughly regretted putting on the long sleeved cotton top i had put on. Vikki's house when we arrived was amazing. i knew it was but i had seen it last time at night, during the day you could see the views out of the back porch straight onto Dee Why beach and the surrounding areas. The boys were all here this weekend as they had all literally just got back from their family holiday to Perth. I met Nick (12), Andrew (9) and Max (4 on Wednesday), who all were very hyperactive after not a lot of sleep. Vikki potted around the kitchen as she was getting ready for our dinner party in the evening and i popped outside with the rest of the group to join in with a good old game of Cricket. Now as a "Pom" i was automatically dismissed, but i soon showed them not to underestimate us! i caught out 2 people and they found it increasingly difficult to bowl me out. One of my shots nearly took out Nick who close lined a telegraph pole trying to catch one of the balls. thoroughly enjoyable!
At 8pm Jennie, Alistair, his son Oli and Christina all arrived and it was so great to catch up with them all after what seemed like such a long time since our Vietnam holiday together. We reminisced for most of it about Tuan, Adam, John and Fiona, Alex, Erin, Monkey...everyone was mentioned. We even called Martin back in England to say hi and let him know that we were thinking about him. A few bottles of wine were emptied and i think Ralph had managed to pour most of them into Jennies glass as she ended up being quite intoxicated by the end of the evening. The evening was a huge success and everyone went home around 12.30am. The boys very kindly left me a little surprise in my bed....a toy snake! hummm.....
Sunday 18th
Today everyone woke up surprisingly early. I got some brecky and read my book on the porch. the sun was already out and i later found out that at 7am Ralph had already gone for a surf! So then it was decided that we would all go to the beach. i guess in a bid to try and get rid of some of the boys energy. So about 12pm we all walked down to Dee Why beach, only took up 4 mins to get there and Nick kindly found us a spot. Vikki went off with Max to the kiddies pool just around the side of the bay. Ralph then took me with my boogie board into the sea and proceeded to teach me how to surf. Wow...such an awesome feeling being taken by the waves and not drowning. However i must say for future boogie boarding experiences i would definitely need to be in a less crowded area of the beach, cos i unfortunately took out some girl as i went flying past! woops (she wasn't hurt but i think it was just a shock). after that i felt it was safer for everyone if i retired! I played catch with the boys for a bit till i got ganged up upon and the war started. luckily size was all that mattered and i dumped them in the sea, however this did not stop the wet sand throwing or the attempted drowning....on my part!hehe. Back at the house i got ready for D's 21st birthday BBQ. Vikki lent me her hairdryer which was fantastic. it had been a long time since i held one of these babies. At D's house the party was already in full swing in the back garden, i got introduced to D's friends and ate some lovely food. The cake was made by one of her mums friends and it was amazing and although the majority of the house wanted Lisa to pull out the karaoke machine, Lisa thought it best she embarrass her daughter no more, so instead just mimed and danced to the music coming from the upstairs stereo. Classic!
Vikki picked my up around 6.30pm and we went back to hers were she had a stunning roast lamb dinner cooking in the oven, which you could smell from the driveway. Lamb with roast potatoes, roasted pumpkin, beans and mustard gravy....yummy!!! Afterwards the boys went back home to their mums and i helped Vikki feed Max. Used a little trick i used to use on Yassy...."Here comes the plane", he absolutely loved it and ate all his dinner. Result!
