Well I thought it was about time I posted something on here, I cant spend all of my time lazing around getting massages and sunbathing!! Hope you are all having lots of fun going to work ha ha ha!! Just think..... only 4 days until the weekend....aarrr! ;-)
I will add photos later in the week, I think I have come to the slowest internet cafe ever. It says 'High Speed' on the door, but it has actually taken over 10 minutes just to get to open this webpage, so it might take another 7 hours if I want to add photos and as much as I do 'have all the time in the world', im sure I can find something far more interesting to do - even if it is raining at the minute...
Well I am still in Thailand, currently on Koh Tao, which is far busier than it was when I came 2 years ago. Ive been rainbathing this morning, which was lovely and refreshing. Even I have to admit that it is very very hot out here. I keep seeking the shade (which would usually be a swear word in my vocabulary), so I am loving the fact that the sun has gone into hiding today, its still lovely and warm though, before you all start chuckling away that it might be cold and grey!!
I finally arrived in Bangkok a few weeks ago, which seemed like it was never going to happen at the time - but Heathrow airport was a lovely start to the holiday, I wish I could have stayed there for a bit longer than the 21 hours that I was there, its a much nicer place than tropical Thailand ;-) I shouldnt complain really, as it was definitely preferable that they found the problem with the plane before we were in the air. Obviously the only thing to get through it was to hit the bar, at the expense of Qantas...
So we spent a few days in Bangkok and had a day trip to the floating market, which was great fun, to see the River Kwai, which I have always wanted to see and then to the Tiger Temple. It was a great day out, but we also spent 7 hours in the minivan, which was a bit tedious, but I caught up on lots of sleep because of it. We then hit caught the overnight train to ChiangMai and did a 3 day trek in the jungle. It was a great experience, but I cant say I was sorry to be back in civilisation afterwards. I was feeling very dirty and smelly! The first night, we stayed in the middle of the jungle with hilltribe village people. Very rustic. The first night was positively luxurious, with the tin squat toilet, tin hut with a cold water tap and bucket for a shower and bamboo hut with mat on the floor as a bed. Obviously no electric, so it was 'toilet by torchlight' Night No.2 definitely went downhill in luxury stakes, but it was still good all the same. The shower was the river, the toilet a squat in a tin shed again and just a thatch roof, with mats on the floor for beds. We werent even in an enclosed bamboo hut. Almost sleeping under the stars... It was good to get some exercise..
Since ChiangMai, we have hit Koh Phanghan and Koh Tao, where massages, sunbathing, sunbathing and more sunbathing have been the strenuous activities that we have done. (Its hard work sunbathing I can tell you) Weve still moved around quite alot, seeing different beaches and staying in little huts for next to nothing. The cheapest, which was actually by far the nicest out of all of them, has been 1.50 per night each and even had a hot shower. But after only having cold showers in the other bungalows, I ended up reverting back to cold - much more refreshing. Have met some great people and hopefully I will continue to do so. As of Saturday, I will be 'Billy no mates' and all on my lonesome, hitting Vietnam...
Right, I think I have babbled enough for now. I think its time to go for a foot massage and a hangover cure. No more vodka buckets and tequila.... well not for the next few hours at least!! My new (and very comfy) bed seems to be the hammock outside the bungalow, so I dont have to wake Edel when I get back in the small hours. (She usually goes home before I do in the evening).
Have a good week at work everybody. Hope you are all well. Missing everyone loads, but I am definitely not missing England and the dull weather!!
