Monica's Europe Trip
I am in Rothenburg, a medieval city that is still contained within its original city walls. It is a pretty neat place. We walked on the walls this afternoon. We also went to the Crime and Punishment Museum, which had all kinds of instruments of torture. They were the actual devices used in that day. My favorite were the Shame Masks. People had to wear them for various reasons, such as a woman who gossiped too much. Also, there were these neck braces that would hook two people together, such as two quarrelsome women or a husband and wife who fought too much. I have pictures of many of these things. It was very interesting.
Rothenburg is a very small city and we did sightseeing throughout the whole town. Ragen (the guide) told us that white asparagus was a specialty here that was in season, so I had to hunt down some of that. We eventually did find it, and Deepak, Vineeta, and I split a plate. It was very expensive. Quite good though. I'm sure you're very proud of me, Mom. Has anyone ever had white asparagus at home? I've never seen it before.
Then we went to a beer garden and watched the soccer game between Netherlands and Argentina. The beer is good here by the way. Tucher (or something like that) is what I've been drinking.
Then I tried calling Mom, Matt, and Kaya, but no one answered. It is expensive to call from pay phones here so that's why I don't call very often. I think internet is the best way to keep in touch. So please, e-mail me back or send me a message on here or write on my message board or something! I like to get e-mails when I'm able to get to a computer. I wanted to talk to Kaya tonight because I told her I'd call her on a Wednesday when she's home. It is Wednesday, right? So Matt, answer the phone when you see a strange number! It's meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!! Inside joke. Just answer the phone. I want to talk to Kaya. And you too I guess. Just kidding, you know I want to talk to you.
Ok, going to bed now. Have to get up very early tomorrow to leave for Dachau concentration camp and then spending the night in Reutte, Austria.
