What a GREAT day! Today was our last day at Campers Cove in Alpena. Everyone really enjoyed it. Before we left, the kids wanted to play putt-putt. There was a little 18 hole around the fishing pond by our campsite. It is probably the first putt-putt ever made but kept up fairly well. Not fancy but challenging. Hey, in the 1950s, kids were way easier to please. It was actually more fun than I expected. This was a neat little campground and by the way, the east side of the state is beautiful and less congested with tourists. We took showers, dumped the pooper and headed to the UP.
What a gorgeous day too. 82 degrees and blue skies and cool air. Perfect day. Along the way, we passed through Rogers City. It is a nice little town along Lake Huron. As we were passing through, we spotted Lake Huron down a side street. It was glorious shades of blues. It literally drew us in. We drove down to a beach area and parked the rig. Paul and the kids swam while I watched the towels and took pix. Who's going to do it if I am in the water? I must say, I came very close to going in because it looked so nice.
We are finding that this RV is convenient in many ways. When you are leaving, you pretty much unplug and clear your campsite and drive away. You don't have to keep packing up and cleaning up. You just take everything with you. You also have a potty with you. No stops. You have food and fridge and a stove. No stops. The kids can move around freely. It's getting easier everyday.
We drove part of the way with Lake Huron on our right on the Lake Erie scenic route up to the Big Mack. Eeee. We were nervous about that. It was a little white knuckle crossing the Mackinac Bridge. The guy told us to stay in the middle lane so the wind doesn't blow you off. WT-RV! You could feel the wind. I didn't like it. I am sure we were over sensitive. You The saving grace was the clear blue sky, blue waters and the sunny day. The rest of the way to Munising was along side Lake Michigan. We arrived at Otterlake Campground around 7:30. It was almost 4 hours from Alpena but we took our time at the beach.
Otterlake is a cool little rustic campground on a private little lake. So peaceful and picturesque. This campground has more tenters than campers. Lots of families. The have boats and fishing and laundry and a tiny store and sport stuff. The boys were excited about the Gaga pit. We have one at Beachwood. It's a ball game. They love it. We cooked up some delicious burgers on the fire pit for dinner.
After, the boys played Gaga and rode bikes. We bought new fishing rods and got Biddy fishing finally. Later everyone was fishing. I chatted it up with a nice lady in between worming up some hooks. Apparently, they think I enjoy it more than they do. No one caught anything. We end the night with a fire and s'mores. It should be another cool night of stepping. We have not had the air on at all. Tomorrow, a full day at Otterlake and Pictured rocks.
