Beautiful scenery on our hike in the Blue Mountains. This is a plateau with gorges and canyons. Paths go along cliff sides. We don't do bare face rock cliffs, but here, much is covered with temperate rain forest, making for a great hike !
In the afternoon, we passed through remains of the historic village of Hartley, which was growing in the 19th c, but then got bypassed when the train came through, and it died. And we got our first glimpse of the wildlife !
Our goal was that our day would end in a tent, to have hiked and camped on our seventh continent. However, late in the afternoon, we were getting clues that the weather wasn't going to cooperate. We had more rain gear, and our guide/outfitter was all ready to accommodate. However, when it was time to be setting up camp, it was raining so hard, with so much lightning that cooking out and being outside just didn't seem sensible. The guide was seriously tracking weather, seeing that it was going to last, get worse through the night. So we ended up back in the hotel. Disappointed, but it had been such a great day, that all I could think was no concerns. At the end of the day, it confirmed what I've said many times. The "bucket list" just isn't what it's about. It was still a fantastic day !
