So this is officially my first blog entry from Kenya. We have been here a week now and arrived yesterday at our homestays. We had previously been staying at the Mary Ward Center in Karen just south of downtown for our orientation. This country is like nothing I have seen before. There is such a distinction between rich and poor. There is no middle class, and the home I'm staying at is a fenced in area surrounded by poverty. Just outside the fence to the neighborhood, I saw a man sleeping on some rocks with a blanket keeping him warm for the night. It is very eye opening to see. Last night driving home from a film, our car was stopped by police and we were notified that were committing some sort of crime. After a few tense minutes and some arguing, the police let us off with a bribe. Thank you police corruption. Two days ago, we went to an giraffe sanctuary and were able to feed them pellets of food. Very cool to see and touch such an animal so close. Thats about all I can think of for now, and I think I did pretty well for my first African blog entry. I'll keep everyone posted as new events arise.
