Marty's Adventures
Today my plan was to explore the Fox and Franz Joseph Glaciers, I had not booked anything but I was hoping to do the half day glacier walk at Fox Glacier. I arrived early at the Fox Glacier office and they were booked :( the nice young lady said she would ask if they would take one more because the weather was perfect! I went back to my campa and waited it out....nice young lady came running out to tell me that someone cancelled and she put me in!! Sweet!! Off and on our way up the Fox Glacier.....the weather was spectacular not a cloud in the sky.....the hike up was HOT and the layers they had told us to wear quickly came off....the hike up was not too bad but it was very steep and rocky so it was a bit tricky and a good work out.....literally the instant we stepped on the glacier the layers went back on...brrrrrr....the glacier walk was so cool......we went into some crevasses....it was not anything really super amazing but still it was more than I would of ever done.....loved it! The hike down was tough on the knees but I survived! There were amazing waterfalls cascading everywhere..... After the hike I headed to Franz Joseph to get a campa site.....I found an amazing site with a breathtaking view!! I then headed over to the Franz Joseph Glacier....it was an hour and half hike round trip....with this one you can not get as close to have a look but still spectacular! I am settled in my camp for the evening....it stays light out later here in New Zealand or maybe it is because of daylight savings....tomorrow I have no plans but to head north.....take it easy and enjoy the sights.....
