Halo allemal.
Quick summary so far. Number one highlight has to be having diorhea for about 3 days on two seperate occasions, and having a fresh breeze from the Yangtze coming up the toilet! I've stopped drinking the the tapwater altogether now. Nah but seriously being able to munch on fresh snow from branches rather than bring a drink bottle was pretty nifty. Going up over twice as high as I've ever been and seeing Asia being squeezed really tight by India in NW Yunnan province.
Not speaking Chinese has been more a bit troublesome than I imagined, and I've wasted a fair few dollars on taxis. But I'm always learning, and there's almost always been a stranger there to help. I've been tagging along with other backpackers (foreign and Chinese), who have all taught me a bit of Chinese language and culture, like asking for a discount and avoiding paying ridiculously high entrance fees.
Didn't realise how long it would take just to get from a to b in the Chinese New Year, even though I did read about it. But it's been good just staying in one place with the same people for a while, rather than ticking off a list of sights. The cold hasn't been too bad either.
Had a peanut paste type wrap thing and I really miss peanut butter! I'm beginning to like spicy food, but indulging in western breakfasts a bit too. I definately miss the Aussie summer too, try not to think about it too much. Been pretty good with my diary and writing a page everyday.
Off to Beijing very shortly, yawo!
