Well today I decided to get up and go sight seeing in Old Montreal as the sun was out and it would be a good day for photos (although it was a bit chilly). So I hoped on the metro and headed out to Place d'Armes to start my little sight seeing adventure. I followed a set guide for a walking tour around Old Montreal taking me past cool places like the Basilique Notre Dame (pretty much the best church I have ever seen), I saw montreals first skyscraper (New York Life insurance buliding) and old Customs house. Although buildings dont impress me that much, this tour was for you Candice hope you like the photos.
The Basilique Notre Dame was an impressive sight from the outside but once entering (and paying $4, churches know how to rake in the money) I was stunned when I encountered this scene, to say the least I was quite moved. Apparently this wasnt the first church in Montreal but it was built because the old church couldnt accomodate all the people, and in winter mass was held outside, so that just wouldnt do, so they built this spectacular building. It mightn't look it but without seats in the main area this place can accomodate 11000 people (I think I got that right), which is quite alot.
It was a bit of a shame most of the shops in Old Montreal were shut when I went, it seems alot of places arent open on the weekend, so I might have to head but to have another look around...
