Hola,
This will probably be our last Blog entry from SA as we leave this awesome continent in a few days time.
What a whirlwind experience this last 3 months has been, South America has really bitten us and we have fallen in love with the place and its people. SA is really somthing else it has so much to offer and we feel we have only scratched the surface.
In three months we have sailed down the Amazon, climbed a Glacier, climbed the Andes, looked down on Machu Picchu. Taken a hammering by the white water of Salta and flown across the Argentinian Valleys with only a harness to keep us safe! We have ploughed head first down the sand dunes of Peru, stood on the Salt Flats of Bolivia, eaten lemon ants and guinea pig and more steak than you can shake a stick at, along with emptying Argentina of its wine supplies! We have looked in awe at the Íguazu Falls and danced until the sun came up at the Rio Carnaval.
We have met some amazing people along the way, especially the guys who travelled overland aboard the lovely Tortuga, guys your all fantastic and thanks for a great time in South America.
In no particular order (cos yer all special!!) Hannah (I´ll eat it!), Lisa aka Princess, Josh ´the shocker´Favel, Ben (it is a bus, get over it), Chloe (dancing queen), Gav (United), Becks (GAV!), John (De Naa-Daaaaaa), Emer (Queen of Belly Dancers) and Marg (Token Aussie)!
Big shout out to you all - SHABBA!!
Plus Special thanks to Joe Diffy and The Corey Bland Band - Country rules.
So now we are chilling in Pichilemu on the coast of Chile catching our breath before we head out to Easter Island, then on to New Zealand.
Speaking of catching our breath – Rick decided he wanted to learn how to surf so him and Sandra, a Swedish girl we met on our way to Pichilemu (thanks for getting us a good rate at the residencial), went of to the school de surf, unfortunatly the tutor did not turn up. So not to be put off they decided to hire boards and head down to water with a couple of other guys. Who I will add are all seasoned surfers!
So in the water they went and towards the waves that I can safely say are not for beginners, on arrival, they all jumped on their boards and strutted their stuff! All except Rick who realised he was a little out of his depth ( Excuss the pun!) As Rick is not the strongest swimmer I know he soon realised he should probably head back to shore where he would be safer. So he left the crew to ride the waves and started to head back to shore, only to find that he had driftted off the route he should of taken, so for almost an hour Rick lay on his surf board trying everything he could to get back on dry land only to find he was going no where but staying in the same spot all this time.
Caught between the outgoing current and the incoming waves for forty-five minutes he kept swimming, yet going nowhere. A surfer showed up and realised he was in trouble but due to where he had pitched himself the only thing for it was to call over the Banana Boat which was full of passengers! So POOR Rick after an hour of going no where and thinking that was it the Pacfic Ocean was going to be his end, he then had to hang on to the back of the boat while being pulled safely to shore!!!! Lets say he is now never going surfing again and his only saving grace is that he put loads of sun cream on so doesn´t have to have the shame of being tomatoe red as well! Oh how I laught (obviously once I´d checked he was ok) Just a bruised ego and ribs for his troubles! If you were wondering were I was, I was updating my Diary while drinking coffee! I don´t think I´ll be letting him out of my sight for a while!
Rick - I did not have to hang off the back of the banana boat, they pulled me into the tow boat. I would just like to clarify that point.
As for the rest of Pichilemu, its a strange mix of Blackpool and Morecambe in the victorian age a little shabby but lots of charater, we are staying at this lovely old ladies house who fusses over us like we were her own kids. The seafood is great and welcomed after the red meat feast of Argentina!
Well we will say good bye for the last time from South America, its been a blast and we will definatly return one day!
New Zealnd here we come!!!!
