Sydney , New South Wales
Well three weeks in and the first entry to the blog. A lot has been happening and my memory has been affected by the amount of 'goon' consumption!
The first issue of the adventure was in china! Where the Brits were outcast by the chinese workforce and we had to find our own way around the airport and had to get ourselves to the connecting flight.
Having made it onto the plane and into sydney where we were greeted by much friendlier faces, I think that maybe this will have something to do with the difference in sky colour in the two countries!
The first impression of Sydney was a good one. After a couple of days I already didn't want to leave the sun. The first hostel was a social networking heaven, meeting people from all over he world. Also having a good bit of football banter with the Germans!
A lot of good nights out have been had and also some good nights in the hostel drinking.
The blue mountains is definitely a place worth visiting, which for me turned into an adventure of how many waterfalls I could climb into. We experienced a difference in weather throughout the day as the heavens decided to open and the storm began. Lasting about 10 minutes till the sun came out again!
Xmas eve was soon upon us and along came 'the capitan' for the drinking adventure that was scubar! Where we had a starter drink and a pizza also we were given sone raffle tickets for a chance to win a surf board and other prizes! Arriving back at the bar just in time for the draw Santa came in an delivered me a surf board for Xmas :) from then on the night got more messier the only way it should.
Xmas day was on never to be forgotten. Starting off slightly hungover we proceeded to make our way to bondi beach where meeting up friends and meeting new friends down there, the sun was shinning and the water was calling. So we could only do what you are meant to do on Xmas day and we jumped into the sea and swam with the waves. What better way could you spend the day!? Xmas day would not of been the same without a Xmas tree which we did not have, but our Germans friends did at the other end of the beach, so me and Josh decided that we should go and get the tree and the Germans to come and join us.
A few days of recovery and some nights watching a film in the hostel with a box of goon and taking over late night tv rooms we had ourselves some good fun.
New years eve arrives and not deciding what we were doing till late, me Josh James and Sab headed down towards where our other friends were sitting to watch the fireworks. Only to end up in a different place and settling down to a great position and a Great view of the bridge and the opera house. Arriving at 12 midday we had to find something to do, so with all that water at our dispense there was only one thong to do... Find a building over hanging the harbour and jump in! So a little walk down the bank we came across a jetty with a hut on and following everyone else climbing on top and then jumping off down about 15 meter into the harbour and among the jelly fish, which weren't dangerous, apparently!
Along came the time for the fireworks and out came the banana costume from James to which I had to put on of course. After a few token photos and stumbling over sleeping beauties, well kind of, this sleeping beauty was Josh as it had been a long day he decided that the middle of group was a great place to form a bed! But we didn't let him sleep through fireworks. Such good friends! The fireworks were really good, from what I remember after 3 litres of cheap goon!
The walk home was also an event in itself, thousands of people walking across the bridge back towards the city with a walking banana in the middle of them all, there was a lot of singing, friendly banter, and talking to a of people. There was a lot of police in the streets on the way home, at which point I became a stand up banana comedian strolling up and claiming to be lost and looking for directions to a fruit market, Which got a mixed reaction from the police, with some giving me directions for the morning Market and the other laughing at them.
All in all it has been one hell of an adventure on the other side of the world and I'm sure I have a lot more to come :D
