I think that it has been long overdue since I have posted, for that I am most apologetic. Apparently when you have nothing to do on a break you don't do even the simplest of things like post on a blog. I know that I really didn't post about my activities around Osaka, but if you guys still want to hear about the days we spent, let me know and I'll work on a post for you guys.
But let's start back from around when the new students showed up: which was roughly a month ago, it has been loads of fun getting to know them, and I must say that I-house finally feels alive again especially with all the commotion that goes on day to day. Recently we've been taking tests to what classes in language we will place in. I got in the class I wanted AND I found out that out of 4 Kanji classes I am in K2 the second kanji class. I do believe that at the end of this class I will HOPEFULLY know over at least 100-150 Kanji. Woo.
On April 1st, (A great day to see ninja's) we went to Iga Ueno, a village that was originally up in the mountains but was moved to its present location for upkeep and to teach other's about a historical group of people's practices. It was really awesome, The ninja's were so hard core that even in their sleep they slept on their left side to protect their heart in case someone managed to out ninja them and sneak up on them in their sleep. We were shown through a ninja house when had so many hidden doors it was crazy, once they were finished showing us through the house we were allowed to run through the museum in the basementwhere we saw all the tools and weapons. Then we saw a show of the kinds of weapons ninja's used in their martial arts. It was very entertaining. Then we were given time for lunch and to wonder around, I had lunch with Hamilton, Lance, Gel and Rachel, at this little hole in the wall place we found. It served a variety of noodle dishes.
Now, not to say the food there wasn't good, because other people enjoyed their meal quite thoroughly, but I did not, I ended up having cold udon noodles with no broth, a side salad and something else. Udon noodles are typically best in my mind warm and in a soup, and even then I don't eat them that often because they're to chewy for me. And Lance described them best as booger noodles… and I don't think it helped settle my stomach from the trip from I-house to the village… I get motion sickness so easily now on busses. Nor did it help me on the way home. I had lots of fun, and learned a lot.
Next trip I do believe we go to a Noh performance which is another of the traditional theatrical works from Japan. Hope you enjoy the pictures and I'll be posting links up to the video's I took with my NEW CAMERA! (THANKYOU MOM AND DAD!!)
Until next time! Stay genki!
Carolyn
