If you are visiting Edinburgh and have an extra day, I highly recommend The Hairy Coo tour. Not only will you get a tour of the Scottish Highlands, you will get a humorous storyteller and a knowledgable historian. All this while listening to great music.
Now, it is not an ordinary sight, but it is also not an ordinary tour. We rode in style in a small orange bus and travelled off the beaten path. Just some of the things we saw on the tour included:
- Wallace Monument
- Stirling Castle
- Doune Castle
- and the famous "hairy coos"
Every person, no matter their budget, can enjoy this tour of the beautiful Scottish Highlands. The tour is completely free. That's right! Completely free. The tour operates on a "tips only" basis. This means you decide what the tour was worth. The tour operators mandate is that this will guarantee the best quality tour. We were entertained and enjoyed ourselves immensely so we tipped large. I got the impression that everyone in the group had mutual feelings.

Rubina Hare Hi Carrie, I know you and Rob have been to Scotland a couple of times. I was wondering if you had any favorite places to visit. I want to visit Scotland in the next 4-5 years. Any advice you can give would be helpful. Scotland is the only place that I plan to visit in that trip. Thanks Ruby
Carrie Hi Rubina. My apologies in the delay getting back to you. Edinburgh is a very beautiful city. We have been a couple of times and would not hesitate to go back again. St. Andrews is a nice, quaint town. If you can fit in a visit to Loch Katrine, I would recommend that as well.
