4:30am.. the alarm.. oh no.. no no.. oh YES. It's Wednesday 21st of July 4:30am in a Hotel at Tampere with my parents, the morning my long adventure stars! Quick (1hour) shower, two croissants and hot chocolate as a breakfast and to the road! Flights are: Tampere-Riga-Madrid and Madrid-BuenosAires-Santiago. Almost every flight is delayed about one hour because the strikes. Finally on thursday afternoon after 48 hours I stand in front of Plaza Londres which is going to be my hostel for the couple first days in the Santiago center. Short walk on the main street, to the nearest supermarket and to sleep 8pm (time difference is 7 hours so it's 3am in Finland and I feel my body is still in Finland so I can't stay up anymore!)
During the travel I meet a lot of interesting and so so helpful people! An Italian businessman at the Madrid airport, a Danish girl going to do a voluntary work in Buenos Aires, Spanish man informing about the taxis in Santiago, an old so so lovely taxi driver speaking only Spanish, a Chilean waiter teaching me the difference between "la cuenta" and "cuanto cuesta?", Argentinian and Canadian skiing teachers at the hostel breakfast, Australian girl on the way to New York etc... The list could be endless.
"oooh que frío!!" I wake up in my room and it's freezing in The Hostel Without Heating! It's Friday and I need to register my visa. Finally after asking people "Perdon, sabes donde esta Policia Internacional?" I find it and hear that I am in a wrong place. I get a new address. In this office of course no one understands me or actually I don't understand them. Well finally I need to go to one more office but of course when I get there they have to close it in front of me! hahaha Well I have to come back on Monday.. And I don't mind because now I have time to walk around the city and do some shopping! :)
It's wonderful just to wander around the city and feel the atmosphere! Chilean people looks beautiful to me with their brown skin, black hear and I notice I'm different to them. The best thing is that people smile to you, talk to you and are almost always willing to help you. In the afternoon I find my way to Plaza de Armas which is really a nice park with a beautiful church. In this area I can find out people selling paintings and portraits. Of course I'm also offered to buy one. Then I see a huge group of people gathered together as a round following a show or something. Like always I'm curious and take part into this. There is a man about 30 years old talking to the people and making jokes about them and some passers-by. People look relaxed, some of them sitting on the ground, laughing and hurrying nowhere. Me gusta! Finally I am so cold so I want a "chocolate caliente" and soon I find a nice cafe where I can spend a peaceful moment and again observe the environment and people. My peaceful moment won't be long when more people starts to come in and I am introduced for two men. Next hour is one of the funniest here! Other guy is an engineer and a guitarist in some band, other one an opera singer and of course after every couple minutes starts to sing for us!
I have contacted a family to ask if I could live with them and in the evening will meet them and see the family, house, metro etc.. I am loyal to my habits and 5min late from the meeting! One really good start for me! Well anyway the night goes really well, parents are nice and three girls around my age are more than friendly to me. When we speak about everything everybody have a good feeling about this so we agree that I can move in the next day! Estoy feliz!
