Surprised Nick made it on the trip after having broken not one, but two of her bags!
We had lunch in a little town called Dorset; looking out onto the Bay of Bays. Climbed the Dorset Fire Tower, which used to be a lookout point for forest fires, and enjoyed the widespread views!
Then we headed to Ragged Falls where the water gushed down the hillside; cutting through the woods. After that, we made our way to Madawaska, where we enjoyed a home-cooked meal, campfire and singing (it was like something out of a movie!) We were taught how to make Smors too - melting a piece of chocolate and sandwiching it between two chocolate biscuits and a layer of toasted marshmallow! Mouth watering!
Saturday: We started the morning with a fruit and pancake breakfast before heading out for a 2km hike through the woodland. Nick and I were fine, but the others were all puffing and panting - although that was soon forgotten as we reached the top. Just a cliff edge, and then the view! It was amazing! We just sat there and enjoyed the views, and watched the little chipmunk that darted in and out of the clifftop rocks!
After lunch back at Madawaska we set out to a nearby lake and canoed our way to its source - another waterfall. Nick and I canoed with our tour guide, Heather, who, unfortunately for her, ended up in the lake whilst trying to get us to shore! We also drifted off into the reeds at one point! Could barely back-paddle for all the laughing! The waterfall was stunning though, and after climbing up the side of it, we reached the calm of the river above. Just sitting there in the peace and quiet allowed time for reflection, and without meaning to sound dramatic, I have never felt so calm and so sure that this trip to Canada has been the right thing for me to do. Felt strangely emotional, and to be honest, you'd have to experience it for yourself to understand it. After a spot of soul searching (!) it was time to head back for a BBQ and a few Bohemiam beers (yes, it was spelt like that!)
Sunday: The day started with a brisk hike before we made our way back to Toronto. Just as we were making our way out of the park, we spotted a moose from the bus. By the time we had piled out of the bus, the moose had retreated back into the trees. We were happy we had seen one though, and it seemed a fitting end to the trip!
