We had arranged to meet Joleen at the Lazy Gecko bar on 258 street at around 14:30 for a sunday roast so we could afford to have a bit of a lay in and lazy morning. When we woke up we smoked a kick and headed to the roof to use wifi. I ordered a mixed fruit smoothie and Dan had a mug of Angkor beer, because we were going for a big lunch i didn't want to fill up much on breakfast and didn't want to chance another funny tummy so i had a small pot of yoghurt which was yummy! Dan had a baguette and scrambled eggs and another beer. Dan and I bought badges a few days back in central market of all the countries we are visiting on our trip to sew onto our backpacks but mine had disappeared, i couldn't think of where they could be so before we went to meet Joleen we planned to go to the market again to get me some more.
We hailed a tuktuk down and explained that we want to first go to central market and then to the lazy gecko on 258 street, you could tell he didn't know where it was at all but was adamant that he did. He began to drive in the opposite direction to central market and was driving to the lazy gecko instead. We both tried to tell him to go to central market first but he couldn't hear us over the sound of the traffic. He drove for a long way until we finally caught he attention and he headed back to central market. We hopped out and headed back to the souvenir stall with the badges and lucky for me they still had Egypt ones left, woohoo! We rushed back to the tuktuk to head to the lazy gecko to meet Joleen for our sunday lunch. A few streets away from the bar we almost crashed, we came head to head with a car and the tuktuk skidded and rocked left to right. This lead to a row between our driver and the car driver with lots of spectators. We eventually found the street and the bar and we got charged $7 which is a lot but i guess he used a lot of petrol.
There was no sign of joleen when we first arrived so we sat on the loungey sofas and ordered a drink. After around 10 minutes we got up to change seats and saw Joleen at the table sitting with her boyfriend "Evan". We were gutted to find out that the sunday roast wasn't available which meant i had to really rethink what i would have for lunch. I ended up ordering chicken breast with mustard sauce and fries. We chatted about balans, our travels so far and Joleens job. When the food arrived, so did the residential pug. There are signs around the bar and in the menus saying to not feed the dog as she has weight issues and my my, she was massive, good on her though she made the extra pounds work for her; if it was a poodle she would have looked ridiculous. We were joined by Joleen's friend Alexis who is also a teacher and we chatted away and finished our lunch. Jo asked of our plans for the day and we were meant to meet Laura and Ben later for a drink but she invited us with her to a bar with a small pool called "sundance" on 172 street so we walked back to the hotel to change into swimwear.
When we got back i checked my ipad and i had received a message from laura cancelling drinks tonight as her stepdad got taken to hospital with a suspected heart attack- worse news to hear when you're travelling! So i said we would meet later in sihiunkville or koh rong and sent her my thoughts and prayers. After changing into a bikini we headed out to sundance bar to have a swim and meet joleen again, it was a short walk from our guesthouse thank god and when we arrived we were met by Alexis on her bike who came in with us. Joleen was at the back by the pool with some more of her friends so me and Dan went to get a drink and have a dip in the pool. While dipping my legs in a group of five older men and two khmer women caught my eye as they were playing hilarious drinking games, good on 'em! They sang songs about the french and the aussies whilst downing jugs of Angkor beer. We eventually got in the pool fully when i noticed two of the men smiling at me so i looked over at them and they apologised for "oggling, oogling and googling" me, they didn't care that Dan was near and neither did he, even with a crusty sun burnt face; i still got it.
Joleen left around 40 mins after we arrived so we hugged goodbye to her and her boyfriend and we also left shortly after. When we got back to the guesthouse we headed up to the rooftop to go online and i brought my phone so i could shazam some songs that they play as they have a really good playlist. We felt a bit peckish so decided to order food. I went for a cheese and bacon toastie and fries and Dan opted for his usual: tuna sandwich and fries. My toastie arrived first, with no fries then Dan's eventually came. We asked about the fries and it turns out the boy Dan ordered off hadn't actually ordered them but we hadn't paid for them so we said to forget about it, although i was still really hungryyyyy!
Earlier on we booked a minibus for tomorrow to take us to siem reap and the pick up is at 08:30, so we decided to head down to our room and gather our things together and pack all set for tomorrow. We had a bedtime smoke on the balcony with the muffled music of the rooftop bar and watched the khmer life taking place on the streets below us.
