Siem Reap was a fairly nice little town. We ended up spending about 4 days here, hanging out in the cheap but tasty 'temple bar' on the pub street in the centre of town and exploring the Angkor Wat temples. We hired a tuk-tuk guy for the day to drive us around to all the different temples. It was a very exhausting day, climbing up and down lots of different (yet very similar!) temples and pyramid type things. It was great being able to climb all over any part of the ruins, with barely a safety barrier or warning sign anywhere. If these ruins were in Australia or any other western country we probably wouldn't have been able to do more than just look at them. The actual 'Angkor Wat' temple was fairly amazing, a really interesting building, atleast 1000 years old. The whole thing was open, bar a section being repaired, so we strolled up and down different passages and courtyards, trying to escape the occasional swarm of Japanese tourist groups! There were some much taller yet slightly less important temples where you could climb up these steep stone steps up to the top and enjoy the view over the surrounding jungle before slowly climbing down, making sure we didn't fall and brake our necks.
After a few more days lounging around in town and being constantly harrassed by 8yr old devil-children begging for money and food, we jumped on a "sleeper" bus to Sihanoukville!
