From Chester we travelled onto Port Sunshine , which the chappy at Chester information centre recommended , so glad we did , what lovely surprise. The museum was fascinating because it was in such a beautifully presented town and full of information on what it is famous for and it's founder ( who would of known ! )
William H Lever and his wife Elizabeth E Hume developed the town to house their workers for the soap factory but not just any old how , he was man before his time . He didn't want an unhappy work force so he built a town where all workers had hot and cold running water , a separate bathroom within the house , a yard for vegies to be grown and all children to attend school . He did have certain rules that the town had to abide buy but not many objected to them . One of the rules was that every house and garden had to be kept neat , he didn't want any slum town of which many of the workers had come from in London , and all children to be educated because he knew that was the future .It was a lovely few hours spent there , highly recommend if your ever that way. :-)
