Gold Coast - Surfers Paradise

We arrived in Gold Coast really late after leaving Noosa. The bus kept on being delayed and we ended up getting to Surfers Paradise around 2 hours late, about 10pm. We hadn't booked any accommodation because we thought it would be okay...even though it was New Years...ooops! We found out it wasn't okay. Nowhere had any rooms to stay which were cheaper than $169.00 per night so we were ready to sleep rough for one night. :(

We sat in the middle of Surfers Paradise on a wall with our stupid heavy backpacks and 3 drunk Aussies came along and started conversation asking where we were from, what we were up to... etc... and we told them we have no where to stay :( and are going to have to sleep rough. They tried to help and rang round hostels for us but no there was no luck. In the end, one of the guys randomly offered us to stay at his Mum's house! Only been talking for 10 minutes and didnt even no each others names, he wrote down her address and gave us instructions to where the hidden key was and told us to get a taxi there! His mum was on holiday for 2 weeks and he had to walk and feed the dog everyday so he said if we stayed there, we would be doing him a favour as he wouldnt have to go round! Although they were complete strangers, and we thought it was all a bit weird, he was adament that we should stay there... so off we went to some random house in a taxi to a place called Carara! We got there okay and helped ourselves in through the back door, the dog was called Deuce (bigalow the male gigalo) and he was really nice. We stayed there only for one night, the guy said we could help ourselves to the food and drinks soo it was all good. The dog was covered in fleas :( and had bad dermatitus, soo we bathed him and got all the fleas off so he was all nice and clean :D We took him for a walk the next day and he did a massive poo on some guys front lawn which was embarrasing. He was only a small dog... We dont think he had been walked for a long time! He's not allowed to poo inside so he must have been turteling for a few days! Luckily enough we didnt get caught as we left in on the garden!

We left the guy $50 on the table even though he didnt want any money, and we had pampered his dog..! This was the most random night so far.. hilarious. The day after we rang our friend Laura who said we can stay with her for as long as we need :) We went to a party on the beach with a few of Laura and her boyfriends friends for new years which was good fun, it had live music, and then we headed to a few clubs later on. HAPPY NEW YEAR :D!!!!!!

New Years days we chilled out, went to Broad Beach which isnt very far away, we were walking along all the rocks on the pier and saw dolphins and turtles which was exciting. We were trying to catch crabs and a massive tidle wave soaked us :-/ luckily the sea's warm here! We left here to go and see some rock pools which had quite big waterfalls. It was quite dark by the time we got there and it was all rainforest so a little scary. There were hundreds of glowworms and Cane toads which are poisoness, so we weren't here for long! We got back and had a bbq. Yumm.

The Next day Laura and Nick both had work so us two went walked into town to buy Law some jeans because they have ridiculous rules here that guys cant wear shorts into clubs... what backpackers take jeans with them?! We walked miles and Law burnt his chest which was funny, bought some jeans and then got back and got ready to go out. Nick got us free entry into a Club which had free drinks for two hours sooo we had a good night :) the night ended with a Kebob which must I say... They are AMAZING in comparison to english kebabs!

Hung over the following day, we were supposed to go to 'The Races' (a bit like Ascot) but didnt get out of bed untill gone 1pm soo we had a lazy day instead. We went to the beach and had a sunbathe got back had another BBQ, couple of beers, and then Laura shaved all Law's Hair off :-/

Next day, (today 04th Jan) we went hat shopping!!!!! We went into town to buy a hat to hide Lawrence's nice new hair.

We are off fishing later :) and heading to Byron Bay tomorrow morning (7/01/11)
