Arrived at Vancouver Airport and had my hand luggage hauled off the conveyor belt and promptly searched for explosives...which was a bit of a shock, especially when my tampax was thrown across the airport florr amongst other personal belongings that i wasn't expecting to share with Vancouver Airport. Anyway luckily they didnt find any and we went on our way.
Watched "The Reader" on the flight and then by the time it was over we had landed and were being greeted by Aunty Valerie in arrivals! We arrived home and all sat down with a glass of wine and nibbles and chatted about the trip etc, then it was pasta and garlic bread for tea and we checked the Internet and headed for bed earlyish!
Saturday morning Gemma had the mammoth task of catching up with her blog so me and aunty went to the supermarket and then sat in the garden drinking wine. Chicken, potato and sweetcorn for tea, and then bed again.
Sunday we went to Alison and Matt's for a BBQ! Weather was gorgeous. Met baby Jackson for the first time, as you can see from the pictures he is very cute and a very well behaved baby. Also met owen for the first time who is equally cute and the spit of Matt. AS apparently everyone says Owen and Madison are the doubles of one of their parents!
Had a great day with everyone, and it was nice to see people from the wedding again. Surprisingly I remember most of them...Left about 6pm.
The next day we were up early to head to Niagra. I wasnt expecting it to be in such a built up area but was still amazing. We wandered around the perimeter and then got on the Maid of the Mist, all decked out in our very fashionable ponchos. Managed to get a picture of all 3 of us under the waterfall without breakig the camera which was good! Went for lunch and all had salad and then got back in the car to head for the wineries. Went to 4 in the end and had "taste" of wine in each which was nice. The heavens opened just as we got in the car but had stopped by the time we came out of the first winery which was good. Went to the winery owned by Wayne Gretsky and also one by the only lady to ever win the "Grape King" award! She specialises in Ice Wine, and didnt have much else in stock as she was waiting for labels to be delivered but i had a Raspberry one and Gemma tried Cranberry, which were both nice. had an early night as we are doing a tour of downtown Toronto tomorrow.
Tuesday was a bit grey and cold but luckily it did not rain so we could sit outside on the open topped bus. saw CN tour and where Valerie works etc, and also the hotel where they filmed "Three Men and a Little Baby and Lady" which was my highlight. Then we went for lunch at Caseys and did a bit of shopping in the eaton Centre. I managed to find a skirt for 10 pounds in A&F which is a great deal!
Wednesday we sunbathed in the garden in the morning until Matt came to pick us up and took us on a drive along of all the dodgy areas in Brampton where he used to work which was cool, then we went to his house and sat in the garden drinking Vodka Grapefruit (which he introduced us to). Alison got home just after 5 and we all sat down and had fajitas and then stayed up chatting. Alison finally had to go to bed as she had been up at stupid o clock that morning for a run and had work the next day.
Thursday Matt had the day off so we went downtown and met Dave for lunch. You might remember him Mum, the Italian who let you push in front of him at the bar at the wedding. He now has a baby and another on the way with his girlfriend. Unfortunately with the Muncipal strike there isnt much open downtown and all the sports games are being played away this week so we were forced to sit on a patio and eat and drink for the afternoon. It was tough but i just about managed it. Then we went to Matt's police division and met some of his friends etc before heading home to see Alison.
Friday we got up late and went for lunch in Streetsville. Met a couple of Matt's co workers and had lunch and drank at an Irish bar. Alison was finishing at 3 so we called her to get her to meet us, and she had just got in her car when the daycare rang and said Owen had stuck a bead up his nose and they couldn't get it out. So instead of her relaxing Friday afternoon, her and Matt were in A&E until 8pm as the doctor and walk in clinic close at 12 on a friday (alright for some!). Andrew picked us up about 5ish and we went out for dinner with him and Marlene while Valerie watched Jackson (Vanessa and Matthew were at their Dads). It was a warm night so we were able to sit outside in all the bars. i was waiting to get some drinks in one bar and met a woman from Pudsey. Despite living in Canada for over 20yrs she still sounded rough, and pointed at me and said to her husband "shes from t'posh part of Yorkshire!!" So there you go...
Got home about 11 and for the first time in 6 months me and Gem slept in seperate bedrooms. We were up at 8 to go to Troys cafe for breakfast with Andrew and Marlene. I had scrambled eggs on toast which is apparently a side order...Im not sure what you would have it on the side of as I could barely finish it all. i dont think i will ever get used to the huge portions. We then went on a drive up the Escarpment where you can look over the whole of Toronto, it was throwing it down with rain though so couldnt see much but it was still really nice. Then he dropped us off at Alisons ready to go shopping in Yorkdale. Gemma wasnt feeling very well so she didnt end up coming but me, Alison, Valerie and Madison went for a very nice lunch and cocktails at the Pickle Barrel, and then had a wander around the mall. When we got home we both jumped in the shower ready to go to Brookes (Cams daughter) for appetizers before our girls night out. Matt was having a poker night with the boys.
Had a few drinks at Brookes and then headed for a little place called Port Credit. Went to a nice bar called Jam and then a bar/club called Ten. Unfortunately the people in the bar were a bit older than us and it wasnt really our scene so we headed home about one o'clock. Luckily Matt's police friend Bernie was on duty so picked us up and dropped us off home which was great.
On Sunday we chilled out in the garden with Alison until about 3pm when she dropped us back off at Aunty valeries. We then went to Slyvia and Bruces for a Sunday Roast and we had our first Yorkshire pudding of 7 months. It was gorgeous.
We didnt have a train to catch until 5pm on Monday so spent the day in the garden before uncle Paul took us to the subway to catch our train.
