Week 1 - Chile
Santiago, Chile
So far we have been to Santiago, Valparaiso and Pucon.
The first few days were a bit crazy, trying to adjust to the time. Santiago is a cool city, lots of good points to see the city from and the nightlife is pretty good too. Beer is ridiculously cheap so have indulged here and there. We met an American guy Joe who lived in Santiago building roads and was our first friend! We drank craft beers in a karaoke bar, was a lot of fun.
Valparaiso is a port city 2 hrs from Santiago, full of old school charm and beaming with locals. We took a boat into the harbour and the city is much like Wellington, steep streets and cbd on the flat. We did a 22km walk to the summit of La Campana, north east of Valparaiso. Unfortunately, it was overcast so our pictures don't reflect quite how high we were.
Pucon is a small town 1000kms south of Santiago, and is like Ohakune (mountain resort town). The buildings are mostly German styled as they were given land many moons ago by the government. We went to some natural thermal pools which was nice and relaxing last night, and went on a bike ride to some waterfalls today.
My spanish is still coming along, I was practicing with a Chilean girl, Nicole, in our hostel last night which was a lot of fun. My rolling of the r's are no good! Tomorrow, we board a bus for Bariloche, Argentina.
Chile has treated us well and we will be back in the north in October.
