Cancun is known for big parties at the right time of year, if the party for the boxing is anything to go by then they must be wild.!
I pretty much chilled, read and hung out by the pool next couple days, trying to save money for the states and further a field places but also saving it for a night out with Alex and Emma, well our last one for some time they where heading home soon. Alex and myself thought we grabbed a bargain box of coronas that turned out to be mini bottles but we still got on it. We attempted the main strip but it was so expensive (for backpackers) we headed back to a live music venue in the downtown area. Watched a few bands then stumbled home wanting Big Macs and food. They left the next day and I found myself alone and waiting to head north through Mexico. That morning was a Friday and I needed cash, I did nothing unusual but for some reason the machine kept my bank card.! Enter panic city, little cash, wanting to leave and No chance if I couldn't get it back. Western union wanted silly money just to transfer from England and I would lose about 25% of anything sent my way. Forever il remember those that offered, to send me cash and am thankful to them to this day..?! It turned out that I could get my card first thing Monday morning, but there was an important night of boxing inbetween.
So the night of the fight came and everyone was pumped up for it, I went to a sports bar with an American guy and a German. We had a few beers and some tacos, i had just about enough to cover my bill, even though they did offer to pay my share i wouldn't let them. As nice an offer as it was. During all this fun we watched the fight, juan Marquez v manny pacquiao.. It was always going to be a great fight if you watched it in England, America or Germany but being in Mexico made it that bit special as Marquez Is a Mexican hero. I wanted the Pac man to win but kept that quiet. I'm not the biggest boxing fan but it was a mind blowing fight, and when the pac man got KO'd the place went wild.! Tequila and fireworks everywhere, the Mexicans sang and danced, I left and headed back with a big grin for boxing and Mexico but not for the Pac man who I thought was sure to win.
After the weekend I went with my best Spanish to the bank to try claim my bank card, as advised I took a passport too.. The guy spoke no English but in a very bad accent I manage to say that their ATM had swallowed my bank card. He jumped up and opened a safety box and withdrew about 15 or so bank cards and checked for mine.! Such a relief to get it back.! So now I could move on and make sure I always used an ATM at banks incase it happened again.
I had a long bus journey down to Oaxaca so I could hit the pacific coast, it was just another long bus journey in the many that I've had on this trip. After 26hours I arrived, the town was just like every other Spanish town in Latin America, i walked the main attractions, looked around and took photos but wasn't feeling it, so after two days there i headed to the coast town of puerto Escondido on ANOTHER bus. I wanted to get to the beach as I find it always feels more home like but was also keen to be moving up to Mexico City and the states to catch up with some great old friends from home and San Diego. Also the lands of English speakers.! My Spanish had improved loads but that could all be lost and forgotten in no time. Escondido is a great beach town and one I'd like to come back too, the beaches are great and the hostel I was in had a great pool and atmosphere, still being low season it was quiet. The adventures here and further north can all wait for next time:
No Morgan or Tim, christian disco, bull fighting city, free zoos and finally a flight.
Peace out much love Micky xxx
