The bus from mancora to Guayaquil was an hour late and I had missed free breakfast at the hostel for nothing... It was 2 hours to the border, and then another 1 and half hours trying to get into Ecuador... This was only down to lack of staff nothing more, the crossing was simple enough... After no breakfast and with dollars in my pocket I grab some food and we head onto Guayaquil...
Then next hour is one that really intrigues me, the world outside my window is amazing... We pass through small farming towns, fields of bananas, and other fruits, the food being cooked on the streets looks incredible and the smells that enter the bus windows are mouth watering... Like a gold fish staring at a world he doesn't understand I'm dying to jump out and experience poss the most beautiful countryside I've seen since cambodia or Kent, meats and fruit that make great eye candy and smell as good but like the goldfish I'm kinder trapped, this is where I realise I'm missing out by not speaking much Spanish... The small amount I do is enough to get by but having conversations with these people would have been a great experience and one I'm sure to regret for the rest of my days...
Guayaquil is the largest city in Ecuador and like most large cities is a bit too commercial... Huge malls, lots traffic, advertising boards everywhere and of course pollution... I decide to only spend a couple days and move on to a very small party town called Montanita...
The buses in ecuador look like there from the F1 circuit and have more lights, colours and stickers than one of Maces gokarts.. Montanita Is only 3hours away so not to bad a journey and on the coast with a large community of back packers... The hostel dorm is on the roof top open to the elements and has mosquito nets cover single matrices about 11 in total... On arrival I discover that there are 5 people i have meet from previous towns and places staying here... We all have a great catch up and drink rum till the early hours...
I spend the next few days meeting new people, making friends, playing volleyball, drinking rum and pissing Israelis off but hey fcuk him he pissed my mate off and needing telling... :-) the friends I had made where very helpful when I had a low sugar turn at a pancake stall in town, luckily I had got half way through my juice before I passed out and came too in a taxi flying towards the hospital.. I manage to tell them to just stop at the shop and get me orange juice and then 15minutes later I'm back at the pancake stall to the amazement of my friends and people in the street finishing my breakfast... Quick thinking and luck saved me from an expensive hospital bill and an upset mother...
The next day myself and rupert planned to head to puerto Lopez to get up to Quito, strangely by a locals car and not bus but all that can wait for next chapter...
Whale watching, Quito and diabetic breakfasts....
Peace out much love Micky xxx
