Good Friday. Another hot start to the day, 28 at 8:00. The weather was overcast and as I was walking my mile, I could hear thunder, we were 45 nautical miles off Colombo at the time. We were also travelling at 24 knots. Which is the fastest I've seen.
We boarded three armed guards overnight, they had sailed from Colombo. I heard a noise outside at about 6:00, I don't know if it was them embarking or not. We're now on full pirate alert. You can't tell the difference at the moment. In the evening and night it will be different, we won't be able to go on the Promenade or Terrace decks between dusk and dawn. We will be able to use the upper external decks, apparently, but I don't know what the lighting situation will be. All cabin curtains must be drawn and lights off when not occupied.
I forewent my usual Costa coffee today for a cup of tea and hot crossed buns in the Orangery. Another gold sticker won the PM Individual Quiz, that's 10 now. Linda has been unwell today.
Clocks back again tonight, by 1/2 hour.
Update on the anti-piracy measures. The Promenade and Terrace decks closed at dusk. At dinner the blinds were pulled in the restaurant, but they are pretty sheer so I guess a lot of light was passing through. The windows in the corridor on deck 8 were uncovered, but lifeboats are in the way. Windows in the other public rooms were curtained, but I could see a light behind at least one, so I guess pirates could too. All the exiled smokers from the Promenade deck were in the Pennant Bar, where the atmosphere was like a noisy party! On the next deck up, deck 12, there were quite a few lights on, the clock was lit up but the funnel wasn't. It all seems a bit cosmetic to me.
