Up at 8 today, we had already docked. Breakfast then a mile walk. Countryside tour and cheese and wine tasting at 9.45. We drove through Ponta Delgada and into the countryside. Very green and lots of cows everywhere. The Azores apparently provide over 35% of Portugal's dairy produce. We stopped off in Sete Cidades to look at a small church, St. Nicholas. The Christmas decorations were still up, as indeed they were all over the island. One of the decorations in the church was a gold tree, made up completely of hydrangea heads sprayed gold.
After this we drove to the Blue and Green Lakes. These are divided by a causeway the width of the road. One is supposed to be blue (reflection of the sky), the other green (reflection of the trees). The blue one was vaguely blue, the green one was grey. I expected the cheese and wine tasting to take place in the countryside, somewhere, but we drove back into Ponta Delgada to a modern hotel 2 minutes walk from the ship! I drank some very nice red wine and ate lots of nice cheeses.
I reboarded and collected my iPad and set off to find free wifi. When I found it, I posted my latest set of blogs, downloaded and wrote emails and then had a stroll around town.
Back on board, there was a pretty poor Sailaway party. During this, Captain Hutley announced that the sea would be choppier tomorrow and as a consequence, the Captains Party would be postponed.
It was 60's and 70's night tonight. We didn't wear our hippy outfits, we decided to wait until we are all on the same table, after San Francisco. Nobody else appeared to have made an effort either. Saw the magician, who was OK. Then it was the party in Curzons before a very crowded Syndicate Quiz. We were appalling. On four questions, we came down to two choices, and on each one, we picked the wrong answer! Clocks back an hour tonight.
