Kia ora from a chilly New Zealand.
Well ive been here 2 weeks now the time is just flying but im loving it. I Started off flying into Auckland and i spent a few days here. Not loads to do it the city really. I went up the Sky tower which you can see in the pic got some good views of the city and i spent an afternoon in Devonport just a 10 min ferry ride from the city. Devonport is a little sea side town with a few mountains that you can climb up. I went up Mt Victoria only took about 15mins it should have took about 5mins but i managed to take the long route some how.
Then i joined the Stray bus my transport for the next month up north to the Bay of islands. Its really pretty up here but the weather wasnt to good for my 2 days. The first day me and a few other girls when on a 2 hr walk up to a look out point which was really good. Got caught in the rain on the way back down. The next day was a day trip up to the most northern point Cape Reinga. We drive along 90mile beach which isnt 90 miles long! and do some sand boarding down the sand dunes which was brilliant. Then we talk a walk to the light house for some more amazing views of the coastline.
The next day is just the long drive back down to Auckland. I just stay for 1nt and then head south to Hahei in the coromandel peninsula. I spent 3nts here cus the weather was really good and just chilled on the beach topping up the tan. I did do a few walks to some look outs and also spent an afternoon Kayaking round to Cathedral cove. The beaches here are beautiful. I stayed on a camp site right on the beach so as you can imagin i was in heaven.
From the relaxing town of Hahei i head down to Raglan the surfing capital. Some of the people of the bus did a surf lesson, i did nothing and sat in the sun for a few hours. Our accommodation was really nice up in the hills in the forest. We watched the sunset which was pretty good.
The next morning the fun packed days start. We head to Waitomo where the Waitomo caves are. There are a few different caving trips you can do some you get wet and do things like tubbing and get to see loads of glow worms the others are dry caves which was one of the ones i did and we got to do some absealing 60 meters down into the cave then we spent 2 hrs walking through. The cave was amazing. We also got to go on a Flying fox (zip wire) in total darkness which was really good but abit scary as you didnt know where the end was. In the afternoon we headed to Maketu where we were going to be staying with a Maori family for our cultrual stop. But not before we went to see some German rabbits having their hair shaved off.... all abit weird! The eveing was really good we got a good cooked meal or in my case i just ate chicken and pots. Then the family did some dancing and singing for us, and then it was our turn. Well this was so funny the lads had to learn the Haka in 10mins and us girls had to do a Poi dance. A Poi is just a ball on the end of some string and we had to swing it around and sing. They picked me to be a leader so i had to stand at the front and wear a robe. After we just sat around getting drunk!
The next morning was pretty chilled for me anyway. We drove to Rotoura. There was a option to do some white water rafting for a few hours or zorbing. Zorbing incase ya dont know is where you get into a big ball and roll down a big hill basically. I didnt fancy either so me and another girl just walked around the town for a bit got a drink and sat in the sun in a park. We did get to see some Thermal mud pools too. Rotoura is known for its terrible smell abit like rotten eggs cus of these thermal pools which are over 200 deg hot and the mud basically spits out. Sabrina the girl i was with also managed to walk into a tree and cut her head open but she was ok. Think it looked worse than it was when the blood was running down her face.
In the afternoon 4 of us brave or maybe mad girls decided to jump out of a plane and do a sky dive. I was so scared getting ready and all the way up in the plane. The others kept asking me if i was ok i must have looked so scared. I was last in the plane so ment i was first out. Which im actually glad of cus they all said after they saw me fall out they were really scared too. I jumped from 15000 ft the highest you can do and got to free fall for just over 1 min. It was scarey but at the same time brilliant. I got a dvd too so all can all watch when im back in England. On the night i thought we deserved a few drinks so we went to a bar and did a quiz which we were rubbish at and got a little drunk.
Right well thats all from me right now got a few more days left on the north island then off to the south. Update you all in a few weeks.
Hope everyone is ok back home love michelle xxx
