Brett goes to his meeting, Rupa and I head off into the less expensive shopping area after breakfast. With our map we wander about 3 blocks and start the shopping. its just a choice of bags, shoes or clothes, shop after shop, after shop. its hot again and im sure the shop attendants are hoping i wont be trying on any of their lovely clothes. Same with the shoes, you cant get a sticky foot into anything! The Zhang bag shop proved most promising with Rupa buying an evening bag and me a leather bumbag, my fave for handsfree supermarket shopping. I wont have to hide this one under my clothes!

Home to cool off for 3 hours before the posh dinner. The thought of wearing makeup is daunting (how to get it to stay on) but then I am reassured the room in airconditioned. The dinner is nice, we sit with Tim and Fiona Astley, the food OK and we are in bed at 11.30pm, Brett has his conference paper to present in the morning.
