We woke up and packed our bags. I could hear banging outside and half dreamt that we were being taken hostage and tortured (someone was actually just chopping down a tree at half 7!) must be dreaming funny because I dreamt about someone trying to chuck my toothbrush away before I'd barely closed my eyes last night!
While we're eating breakfasts our driver turns up. As usual there's some confusion. He thinks he's just taking us to Sanur, a three hour drive away although we have booked him for 10 hours so we can see lake and mount batur. He explains as its high in the mountains we would have to pay more even though this is within the time limit. After lots of discussions, as we already know from experience that he'll just take us to places he wants to we just ask him to get us to Sanur within 10 hours and take us to some nice places along the way. We start our trip and the first place we visit is one of the most beautiful places we've seen! It's a temple surrounded by amazing water features, intricate bridges and some cool stepping stones. We give our driver my phone to take pics and he has a whale of a time snapping us from this angle and that angle! Although Hannah isn't impressed with his photography! He walks us round and we just enjoy the scenery and relax. He likes the pictures we're taking and comments when we are trying to take creative ones. After this he takes us to Virgin beach. We have to pay to enter (only 3000 Rp, about 15p) and get out our towels from the boot. The driver loves this and tells us what a good idea it is as it means we don't have to rent towels! We walk down a rough steep path but it's worth it when we get there. The white fine sands we have been promised, blue sea and sun loungers make this a paradise! We walk along the beach, the restaurants offer you a free lounger if you eat so we picked one and settled down for some reading and sun bathing. It was very hot and so we half sat in the shade. After enjoying our time here and having a lovely lunch on the sea front we headed back to find our driver. After the long walk back up the steep path we decided we were tired and hot enough and asked him to drive us straight to Sanur.
When dropped off at our new destination, we paid him in dollars and checked in. This is a family run hotel and we have two interconnecting rooms with a bedroom and living room partitioned off, with a mattress on the floor of the living room which Hannah says she'll sleep on. We head to the beach. It is early evening and the beach is crowded with locals. The sea has gone out leaving shallow pools of water with no current or waves and this has attracted lots of young children and families enjoying the last of the day's sun. As we're exploring, a lady stops us and asks us to talk to her daughter for her school work. As we've been asked by children for money for their schooling I was very cynical but she just had some questions for me which she asked in english and wrote down my answers. One of the girls was recording it on her phone. It made me wish I had done my hair!!!
We headed back to the room to get ready for dinner and when we went in to the street, although it was so busy earlier, it was now deserted. We walked up the road a few minutes and found a restaurant, The Watering Hole and it looked lovely. We were enjoying our meal and watching the lizards on the ceiling, talking and taking pictures. Suddenly I got a wet drip on my shoulder and arm. I looked up to the ceiling to see the culptrit - I had been weed on by a lizard!! The table next to us found this as amusing as did Hannah and Sarah!! Highlight of the evening! We headed back for cards, research and reading hour. Crazy Sarah went on her phone in reading hour. Hannah gave her her first warning.
