Well we have arrived in Australia and although it isn't freezing it is quite cold. Elaine has had to buy a heavy coat and a few jumpers but I've been ok!
We arrived in Singapore on Monday 15th June and our first thought was 'HOW HOT'! It was 6am, pitch black and the temperature was 27 degrees. We easily negotiated the transport system and everyone on the train was really accommodating considering we were taking up loads of room with our backpacks! The walk from the train station to find our hostel wasn't so easy but we arrived in one pieve and with our clothes stuck to us because of the intense humidity.
The hostel was pretty pleasant, we shared a room with 2 girls from Beijing. They were really nice but a little quiet. Apart from when they were sleeping and made the strangest noises!
Singapore is an amazing place but a little expensive. An absolute shoppers paradise if you have got the money and the room in your suitcase - which of course we had none!
We took the tourist bus around the city and took plenty of pictures. It helped us get our bearings and showed us all the sights in one go. We also went to the night safari which was really good and different - walking around in practically no light surrounded by scary animals. Well worth the visit though. On our last day in Singapore we went to Sentosa Island where they are busy building the new universal Studios resort. It's a nice little island with a dolphin lagoon and some very posy dolphins. Some tourist books have dubbed it the Ibiza of Singapore but Ibiza it definitely is not! There are very few bars let alone clubs. Who knows 5 years down the line it might be a bit closer to the truth!
After Singapore we arrived in Kuala Lumpur and it was a complete change to the clean and robotic living of Singapore. We stayed at a place called Bedz KL which is definitely the best hostel I have ever stayed in. The people were fantastic, it felt really homely, the shower area was really tropical looking and the best thing about it was the price - only 6 quid a night!!! KL is dirt cheap but it can also look really dirty in places so you feel a bit off when eating the food but surprisingly there was no dodgy stomachs. The vibe in KL is brilliant. I hated the first day we were there because it felt unsafe and we couldn't really figure out the best Hawker cafe to eat. They completely tout for business and chase you down the street until you get into the next cafe's territory! We settled on a curry for the first night and then when we got back to the hostel we got to know the girls in the room one of whom was Indonesian and for the next couple of days she really helped us out with transport, food and the best sights.
While we were in KL we visited a place called Malacca - it is a really Historic town and after visiting here I decided that I really liked KL. We also tried the Hawker cafes and did a little shopping which was another experience altogether - especially when it came to DVD's!
Sp we left KL behind and headed to Perth. It was a shorter flight than expected and we arrived just after midnight with no real clue how to get to the hostel we had booked. A really nice old man who originally came from Birmingham gave us some good advice and we reached our hostel before 2am. It was right on the beach but the rooms were quite grotty! The tap never stopped running in the 3 das we were there and every noise just echoed! The town was Cottesloe and in the sunshine it really was a gorgeous place. With it being winter though it was really quiet.
Perth is a lovely City, it has loads of old buildings and churches and it feels a little like York.
We've just moved to a new hostel in the centre of Perth which is a bit more lively. We have a few more days left in Perth and then we will move on to Adelaide taking the Indian Pacific train. A lovely 2 day train journey!!
