arrived in morocco yesterday and there has been a lot happenening already! Got off the ferry ok and through immigration without a problem. really nice to have done it all before, know the system and know the tricks the 'helpers' tried to pull. We began on our way down south towards Rabat to get the visa situation under control. We ended up taking some quite rough offroad tracks and were heading through puddles and seeing some interesting towns when i got a flat rear tyre. First thought was f..k. i should have thought better though since incidents like that resulted in the most interesting encounters of the last trips. Sure enough it was the same again. Almost immediately a group of locals had come over and were joining in the fun and inviting us for food and tea and a place to stay. Despite the overwheleming hospitality we pushed on and ended up at a camp spot i had used last year. As like last time it was overlooking the coast from clifftops and we discovered that it is a military controlled area and entry is not permitted (due to illegal hashish smuggling). Using very limited french we explained ourselves and were made more than welcome by the guards keeping eyes on the coast and they even checked on our camp last night a few times during the night. They made sure we understood that if there were any problems or needed anything at all we were to get them from a few hundred meeters along the coast. This overwhelming hospitality and interest in helping people is a fantasticly lifting experience and i hope it continues. It was nice when they came over to our camp thismorning and we were able to share a coffee with them.
Managed to get a visa for Mali today, hopefully Mauritania tomorrow and Senegal on monday in Casablanca. In the meantime its off to the mountains to wait for the weekend to pass. Lets see what adventures unfold out there...
Oh, and id forgotten how good the food in morocco is, AMAZING!
