After Cannes, i had plans to head down through Spain on my way to Portugal, but funds were beginning to run short so i boarded a flight to direct to Lisbon. Arriving at the G-Spot hostel at about 10pm, we sat down for a dinner of endless Portugese chicken, rice, pasta and chips... along with one or maybe twenty too many beers! great hostel! good vibe and great people. I crashed out and made my way down to the one and only Lagos the next day. Little did i realise that i was en route to the most amazing place ever!
Shadd*** met me at the bus station with a beer in hand. Checked in to the Rising c*** Hostel and immediately the party started.
After originally booking 3 days, i ended up staying 2 weeks. And it was the best decision! I met some of the most amazing people, and have since made some seriously strong friendships. I must say, everytime someone left, the vibe changed and everyone died a little on the inside. Dramatic, but true!! aha
We were fortunate enough to be staying at the hostel during their 8th year anniversary party, which entailed massive cookups, big nights out, beach parties, booze cruises and all around amazing times!
Nights out (and there were a lot of them!) were generally very boozy and long, often staying out to watch the sunrise in the morning before heading back to bed for a bit. The next day would generally consist of 3 euro full english breakfasts at the Odean cafe, followed by the amazing beaches.
We even hired kayaks for a day and went around the coast line. This was amazing and will definitely be doing it again when i go back. We found a large set of cliffs that we managed to climb, and then jump off in to the icey cold water.
The amazing nights out took us to the likes of Nah Nah Bar, 3 monkeys, inside out, grand cafe, joe's garage, and many other bars and clubs. Food was cheap and delicious. A special mention to Nah Nah Bar for the most outrageous burgers ever!
I really can't get over how amazing my time was there. The likes of Paddy, Skuta, Charlie, Tori, Sinead, Kaitlin, Shae, Paul, Tyson, Ryan, Yasmin, Mika and of course Shadd*** and Leo made for the most amazing time. That list of people could go on for ever. The owners, Selmo, Abi, Mama and Papa were great hosts. They have been kind enough to find some work for me when i return.
From Lagos i made my way back to Esher to stay with Rod and Sandy again. Funds were low so i decided to kick back for a while. Guy and i got steadily involved in the TV series the West Wing, but after three seasons and numerous dreams involving working in the white house, i'd had enough!
Rod arrived back from Nigeria so there were more catchup chats as it's been several years since the last one. Charlie then arrived over from LA and we made it out to Chelsea for the night with his friends to celebrate his birthday. This ended up being quite a large night which left us in a less than desirable state heading in to Rod's big 60th party. After watching the marquee be assembled for about 4 days, it was time for the party. Every dressed in the dinner suits, looking very smart. The inside of the marquee was unbelievable. Probably nicer than any club i have ever set foot in. The drinks were flowing from behind the cocktail bar. The magician was doing his thing at the tables. Might i add he absolutely blew my mind! I've never seen anything like it. All in all the party was amazing!
The next few days were spent recovering before i decided to make my way up to Edinburgh for the weekend. A nine hour over night bus ride and i arrived. I stayed with Michael Finch, a friend from Perth, although he was working most of them time. A hike up to Arthur's seat gave me an amazing view of the entire city. The rest of the weekend it didn't stop raining. Although that didn't stop us having fun. The first night we had a nice dinner at Gusto follwed by some drinks at a bar called Brambles. Supposedly one of the best cocktail bars in the UK. High prices allowed only a couple of drinks. Friday i met up with my friend James, whom i met in China. We went for beers whilst we watched the Soccer and waited for Khalid (whom i also met in China) to arrive from Newcastle. Tori and Sinead came and met us for a few beverages before we all made our way to Hive nightclub. Not the nicest place around but still a good time. Saturday we made our way to an illusion museum which was quite fun. James, Khalid and I then made our way to the pub to watch the Rugby before resting up ahead of another big night out. The three of us met up with some of James's friends for drinks before making our way to Opal lounge for a hilarious night. I have a newfound love for the Scottish and Irish, it seems as though everything they say puts me in tears of laughter. Maybe it's just the accent. That was pretty much the weekend. Another 9 hour bus ride back to London.
I met up with Nicky B and Wes for dinner and a couple of beers in London which was good. Made it back to Esher absolutely wrecked. Today i have spent all day organising the next few weeks. Fly off to Greece tomorrow for 2 weeks, followed by a week in Norway before returning to Lagos indefinitely to do a bit of work. EXCITED!!
