Sitting on the Dock of the Bay
Albany, New York
Wow! It seems like only yesterday that I applied for this crazy adventure and now only two weeks till we first set foot on the boat that will be our home for 67 days. My best friend of 10 years, Erika Morrissette, will be arriving on the boat the day before. She is an RA on the boat. She is the one who introduced this amazing and unbelievable opportunity to me in the first place. She wasn't even back from her semester in Australia yet, and she mentioned it to me over the phone! I shouted yes" with complete excitement when she asked me if I wanted to go. Of course I was still skeptical about the whole thing, 8 countries? In one summer? 12 credits? It was too good to be true, but low and behold, here we are.
I love to travel. In 11th grade our French class was offered a trip to France for two weeks. I got a job at the age of 15 and earned my self a life-lasting experience. From then on, I knew that traveling was going to be an important part of my life, but I must confess: I never thought I'd be going to Egypt! How thrilling!? Any who, for multiple reasons, Erika wasn't able to join me in France so this trip will most definitely make up for any time lost in 11th grade. Both being away at college we have been scrambling to plan for this extensive world wide extravaganza, but nonetheless us being the goofy, easily distracted pair that we are, we haven't been getting as much done as we hope.
We are set for Spain! Erika celebrates her 21st birthday there, unfortunately they won't care much, for legal drinking age is 18, we are just old farts in Spain. But there we are going to Ronda for a day, Seville for night and spending the remaining time in Cadiz.
Italy we know there is much to do in Rome and Naples that we aren't stressing to book anything, but I do hope to visit the town that my Great-Grandfather's parents came from.
Croatia we are making a day trip of kayaking and exploring then making an overnight trip to Split.
Greece we are spending some time in Athens, then off to the gorgeous Greek Islands.
Turkey and Bulgaria are our next points of planning but we are completely lost. What do we do there?
And for Egypt and Morocco we have signed up for SAS trips of the overnight in Cairo and the Camel Trek through the Sahara Desert. Lord help me if I see a scorpion!
Time is of the essence, yet I'm off to New York City tomorrow for a fun little get away. Erika isn't very happy, but no worries everything will come together! =)

P.S. There is a slight fear of crossing the Atlantic Ocean, especially after news of this disappearing airplane. Let us all pray for safe and smooth sailing.
