Dear Diary,
Well what can I say about Hanoi? Probably can sum it up in just the one word - mayhem!!
It is both the most frightening & wonderful place. Went for a stroll around the old quater & absolutely loved the experience of trying to cross roads with hundreds of mopeds racing towards you in both directions.
Went to a local market which was really vibrant & colourful - baskets of all the spices, vegatables you could imagine & some stranger item such as live crabs in buckets & also live frogs, not nice at all!!
Hostel had a BBQ last night which was really good fun talking to everyone. Majority of us ended up going out for drinks in a, wait for it....Irish pub! Magnificant. Your be pleased to know that Hanoi wont forget me too soon! apart from the large G&T's they served, they only had mini gunniesses, so I obviously had to buy 3 lots of 15 of them (which actually only came to about 30 pounds all in!).
I seemed to be one of the last people to leave, no surprise there then, & ended up coming home wearing a different t-shirt to what I went out in. This was because at some point half a tray of shots suddenly threw themselves at me & the bar staff gave me a new top. Oh yeah, I also managed to loose my glasses while on a moped taxi home at 3am!!
Most of the people who I've met over last 2 days headed off to Halong Bay this morning but I've had a slight change of plan, staying in Hanoi today & will be off to Halong Bay tomorrow for a 2 day, 1 night tour. BTW a group of people went to eat King Cobra & drink it's blood yesterday - funnily enough I declined the invitation!!
Think a few of the 'newies' are going as well, so should be ok.
Of to see museums etc now, so hope this finds everyone in good heart. Take care x
