MeznG. In the air, on the road, river or sea again
No plans today so we have a swim and a late breakfast. Sam is joining us for breakfast today and he shows up somewhat worse for wear. After we left him last night he must have got a second wind because he and the others went home at about 4.30am. Big night for the DJ's Blake and Sam at the YOLO bar and then onto the Temple Bar and Angkor What apparently. He tucks into a good breakfast and is the topic of conversation for the staff at the hotel. Most of the staff work part time and also study. They go to school to study Conversation English so it's very important that they are able to have a conversation and understand what we are saying. You really need to listen hard as it's so easy to misunderstand and be misunderstood.
There are a group of ladies who everyday are folding the lotus flowers. They sit in the walkway and fold and talk. The lotus flower is very beautiful and prevalent in Cambodia and Vietnam. We have fresh flowers in our room and they are all around the hotel floating in ponds and in vases.
We all lay by the pool for awhile and swim and relax. We are planning to go to the Cambodian Circus tonight so Sam has a mission to get some tickets and we will meet him at Kuntheas for lunch. Today we have fresh spring rolls and Pork Fried Rice to share. She is so pleased to see us again. $5 feeds the 3 of us.
We head into the market along the river, it's the only chance I have of looking in the market so Sam heads home for a little rest. We call him later and meet at a Sister Srey for coffee and drinks. Sam is still a bit dusty and decides the best thing is a Lucky Burger ( Maccas Cambodia Style)
We all head to the Lucky Mall and it's burgers all round!
Tonight we have tickets to the circus. The performers are street kids from very poor backgrounds. They join the circus school and learn their skills there. Currently there are 1200 students at the school. These young adults are off the streets, getting feed and looked after and learning some amazing things. The performance tells a story of a boy from a village who was a bit different( he had a disfigured face) and the bullying he endured. These guys and girls are so strong and skilled at juggling, acrobatics, fire twirling etc etc.
They are shiny with sweat as although there are many fans the amount of energy they are expending is enormous. The show lasts just over an hour and it's amazing, so glad that we went.
Our Tuk Tuk driver is there waiting for us and returns us to Shinta Mani. Another great experience we shared with Sam as although he has seen a performance before he said they are all a bit different and exciting.
