After a late night last night, it's a bit of a slow start for me at least. Glenn is up, been to the gym and wandered around the deck of course. We don't dock in Tromsø until 2.15pm so before that we have a short film about the Arctic Capital Tromsø followed a bit later by a lecture about Hunters and Trappers in the Arctic. Both are quite interesting and the lecture given by Peter is entertaining as always as he usually starts off with a few stories or jokes.
We are sailing between islands so it's very calm seas but the wind on deck is quite icy so definitely need jackets now. The sun however is still shining and the sky is blue temperature maximum will be about 16°C today.
After lunch we dock and we are off to explore Tromsø. First we go to the Polaria which is an Arctic information/adventure centre where you see panoramic films about the region and the Northern Lights. They have aquariums of Arctic fish and bearded seals and harbor seals. We watch the films and then see the seals being fed and 'stimulated'. They are huge and very clever, respond very well to the handlers for food.
Once finished here we go to Tromsø oldest brewery/pub Ølhallen established in 1877 to have one of their 200+ beers. The barman suggested that the most popular beer is actually a blend from 2 taps so a Glenn chose that and enjoyed it. I had a small number 7 which was a beer that was most like a white wine, it's ok, but a bit too sour.
Now we just walk and walk looking at the old buildings, going up and down the streets. The museums and any other places of interest shut at 5pm so that's that. We return to the ship in plenty of time for our 6.30pm departure. It's time now to relax, have a glass of wine in our room with some snacks that I gather from the restaurant at breakfast time and catch up on this story. I am quite happy that there are no other commitments tonight besides dinner.
Our meal companions are a couple from Canberra, Andrew and Barbara and a couple from Melbourne, Lauri and Caroline. They are very easy going and we do enjoy their company at meal time.
