This is going to be the most detailed blog im ever going to to write, sit tight and enjoy every detail!
I went to fraser island with my friend Harriet, we were put into a group with 7 other people, there were 3 guys - Izy, Jeff and Raz, and 4 other girls - Emma, Hannah, Stacey and Helen. We were in group A. We had to get up at 6am to sort ourselves out and get the ferry to the island at 10ish. It took about half an hour to get to the island from hervey bay. We were travelling around the island in a 4X4. When we got to the island we went to see 2 lakes before setting up camp, Jeff was driving on the first day. Him and Izy were so amusing, they were singing and entertaining us the whole time. It was very funny. The ride down to all the lakes were very bumpy! It was a bit scary until we got use to it, but then it was still a bit scary sometimes! At one of the lakes we became friends with group D who then decided to follow us on the way to the next lake - as if we knew where we were going, which it turned out we did. When we left the lake and went to the beach where we were camping, group D decided to follow us again, both groups merged together that night and set up camp together, we set up our tents in a bit circle together and parked the 4X4s in a shape to block the wind - it didnt work very well! We had a barbecue that night and we all drank alcohol together. It was a fun first night. There was one very big downfall to the camping on the beach - NO TOILETS! me being a girlie girl and someone who has never gone to the toilet in a bush before learnt something over the last couple of days! That first night was very hard,we all know when you drink alcohol you wee loads, this was a problem, I was having serious issues with weeing in a bush, I kept trying but couldnt relax and go! (Thoseof you who really dont to hear about this, go to the next paragraph!) i kept trying but couldnt do it, then Emma suggested digging a whole so I could sit down, at first that didnt work, but after about an hour and being really desperate I finally managed to do it. I didnt drink anymore that night because didnt want to need to go again!
Camping on the beach was fun and all day we were saying how dissapointed we were about not seeing any dingoes yet, since fraser island is known for being one of the only places where dingoes are 100% dingo and are wild. we definately werent saying that by the evening - we saw loads at night and it was so scary! everytime we saw one we shouted DINGO, which was quite funny because one of the group D guys was nicknamed Dingo, so sometimes it wasnt clear whether someone was shouting at him or because there was a Dingo!
I ended up going to bed at 2am that night and we had to be up at 6 the next morning!
We got up at 6 and drove down the beach to a place called India Heads, at certain times of the year you can see tiger sharks breeeding there, but unfortunately we didnt see any. We were all a bit panicky on the way up there because the tide was coming in fast and we were cutting it a bit fine with getting off the beach in time. We got off the beach at india head at about 8:45 am and high tide was at 9, so we just made it! When we were almost there - literally trying to go up the slope to get off the beach, we got stuck in the sand. we all jumped out the car to make it easier to get up there. when we got there we ate and did the washing up and then walked to the point to see the sharks, which we didnt see. After that we walked down to the beach on the other side, where the tide was still out. It was that time again - wee time. This time I was able to go in the bush without digging a hole, but I had to wait until we were all at the beach and walk back on my own so I knew noone was around But i was successful!
On the way back we decided to stop for showers at a proper campsite, just to shower and cook, on the way there, disaster stuck - the car started to smell of burning, so we stoped and Izy got out the car to check what was happening, he starting yelling at us "get out of the car, get out of the f***ing car right now" we all jumped out of the car, at which point one of the other groups stopped to help us. Basically it was only water or something leaking but Izy thought it was something worse. The engine was jus over heating. so we topped up the water and continued on our way to get clean! We ate and showered and on the way back to the part of the beach we were camping on (we left our tents pitched there.) we saw one of group D in another van, she waved us to stop, and she said they had broken down and had gone into a tree, so they were camping somewhere else - near the scene, and would be back for the tents in the morning. How sad, group A and D were no longer camping together. :( When we got back we ad a great idea, so we didnt need to put our tents down in the morning, we put ours down that night and slept in what were group Ds tents. We played drinking games for a while but for most of us it was an early night!
The next morning (this morning) we had to be up at 5:30! I woke up to Hannah shouting "Morning Campers" I laughed to myself because that felt like I was back at guide camp. We got ready and left at 6:30. we were going to another lake today before going back to the hervey bay. The lake we went to was amazing, it was so nice. We got there at about 8:30 and it was so hot even at that time. We ate breakfast and then went to sit by the lake. We were wondering whether group D would be there at all, they turned up about an hour before we left, but they were able to get the later ferry so they could stay there longer. After a little while Emma suddenly turned round and shouted "DINGO, I need a picture" I thought "why does she want a picture of Dingo" (group D guy) but when I turned round there was actually a Dingo there, right on the beach, it picked up someones bag and ran off with it down the beach, it was quite funny watching it.
We got back to Hervery Bay and unpacked all our things, that was the end of our fraser island trip.
It was very good, and certainly an experience I'll never forget! We had a good group, exept the boys were lazy but they were entertaining! Actually, Jeff was driving a lot so was quite useful, and Raz did pack the van every day but Izy did nothing except sleep and demand to be fed when he woke up and then slept again. It was all fun though.
News just in - Group D have to pay $2500! Its not good! They broke down and hen crashed, its not there fault!
