It's been a while since i have had a chance to log onto STA and update my blog, this last week has gone sooooo fast it's scary. We left Cambodia to take the bus to get the night train back into Bangkok, the train took around 7 hours and in total it took us over 26 hours to finally reach Koh Tao in Thailand, we must have used all forms of transport that day, minibus, coach, train, another minibus then boat.....LOL
It was sooo worth the trouble and its a great island. We were not to sure on the best place to stay in Koh Tao, either the south or north side of the island, i had read that the best place to stay here is Sairee beach, thats the place were all the action happens :-) we were also keen to try diving as wanted to give it ago in Oz, Thailand is one of the cheapest place in the world to get your PADI or SSI course done. With that in mind we wanted to find a hotel with a good scuba diving course and also quite cheap accomadation...whilst we were on the boat making our way to Koh Tao we started chatting to a french bloke Burno who was a PADI teacher he suggested a nice place to stay that also did cheap and good diving.... BIG MISTAKE....
We headed there with high hopes, the hotel was nice and clean however we later found that this side of the island was dead and not alot happened there EVER!!!!!!! HAHA, at this point i think we both wished that we had headed to Sairee beach :-( we had a wander around and ate tea in the hotel, the next morning we had to be up for our first day on our dive course....
The next morning we had to do some classroom work and watch a lovely 2 hour video on all the best ways and safest ways to dive, not very intresting at all really, just wanted to get out and give it ago, we had to wait until the next day to actually go out into the ocean, we headed out around 12.30pm the day, after again either more classroom work from our horrible teacher :-(
When we got out into the ocean by a little wooden boat and climb aboard the bigger diving boat we all had to jump into the ocean in our normal bikinis to prove i suppose that we could swim, we had to do 3 laps of the boat, i was abit scared at first to jump as it was soooo deep and i dont really even like getting my face wet....HAHA, however managed to push myself to jump..... On the other hand Claire was very scared and couldnt make herself jump off, that was pretty much the end of her diving experience :-( the diving bloke was really mean to her and when she had plucked up enough courage to jump he said it was to late and just carried on with his briefing..
Once i finshed my laps i had to try and scuba out to swallower water to begin some training exercise's, i was finding it quite hard as i am not the fittest person anyway and couldnt really move with the fins on....LOL..
We had to do this exercise were you had to take you breathing thing out of yoru mouth under the water, blow bubbles and put it back into your mouth, this i couldnt do :-(, i managed once ok but the other 2 times i kept taking in water, i was getting really scared so kept shooting back to the top, the diving bloke was really mean and kepy syaing to me "i dont understand why you cant do it, you have already done it once", in his stupid holland accent..i then basically started to cry, feel abit of a loser thinking about it now, but at the time it was very scary and he was MEAN!!!!!! i then had to swim back to the boat and give up, he was horrible and never even tried to help me do it any other way, he just didnt really care i dont think.... That was then the end of my diving experience...HAHA...when he came back onto the boat after he finshed with the rest of the group he didnt even come up to me or Claire and ask if we were ok?!?! f***ER!!!!, i hope he drowns....
After this we decided to check out of this hotel and move to the better side of the island and found a nice cabin near to the beach, its 900 bhat a night, which is about 20 quid, not to bad really :-)
For the last 4 or 5 days we have pretty much been chilling out and sun bathing, not to much sign of a tan yet, but you know me, fingers crossed in another 3 months, maybe!!!! if not im straight to the salon to get a spray tan when i get home......
The island is beauitful and the water is crystal clear, fish swim so shallow and around your feet, this island is really well know and good for divers so really if you dont dive your abit of a outcass, we didnt mind that tho, means the beaches are so quiet in the day as everyone is out diving so we get all the space and the well comfy beanbags on the beach which we used to bagys with our towels in try german style :-)
We have planned and booked our ferry to the next stop now, Koh Phangan for the full moon party on the 19th Feb, we leave tomorrow at 9am (15th Feb) and are staying there 1 week too....such a hard job hey, another week of sun bathing......:-)
My experience's have all been great so far (well apart from the mugging and the mean nasty dive man) and im sure it will carry on this way, i think to myself everyday and where ever we are, this will probably be the last time in my life that i will be here. so i try to embrace every minute of it..... Im missing everyone loads and loads but time has gone so fast we are already 1 month in, its mad.... really looking forward to the rest of the trip and getting to oz..
Still no joy with the photos im afraid and the cost of the internet here and the phone is really dear, so will wait until oz probably until i try to put them on again, if not it will be a major slide show when i get home... something for ou all to look forward to i suppose....LOL....
Hope evryone is well.....
Missing you all loads...
Next stop, Koh Phangan...........................................
