Monday 27 July
I never thought I would be writing these words, but here it is: I'm homesick. Miss my home, fam & friends and Blom and Ollie. Although I'm pretty sure Ton & Mar have no intention of giving Ollie back to me as she is now the queen of their garden and apparently has also taken the reigns over the household. And they don't mind. Cats should never be trusted. But its their own fault. Ollie gets served frothed milk each morning. Frothed milk. No wonder she always stares at me with that look: 'Oh no, not you again' when I get back from a holiday.
But - back to being homesick. It's horrible. I can't seem to enjoy much anymore, except sitting in or in front of Blommelstein and read. Read, read and read. Which is a good thing, you might say. But then, when I pause and look up and my mind wanders off, I think of how long it still takes me to get back home. Not good.
Tomorrow is D-day in the sense that I will reach the North Cape with hopefully a peak onto the Northern Lights. But even if they won't let themselves be seen, I'll have reached my goal of this trip. The North Cape.
And then I will try to find the quickest way home. Which may not be via Norway (or if it is, it will be cruising past all the best views as quickly as possible) which would - may be - have been the best part of this trip. But Norway will not disappear from the earth and as my friend Sabine suggested: just take a 6-week trip again next year! Not a bad idea at all.
I think my homesickness (which I never have) is due to the fact that I, decadently so, have been away a couple of times this year until now. Japan, Ireland and now Scandinavia.
I long to be a couch potato, watch beautiful movies, yap into the early hours with friends and cuddle my pets. And may be enjoy those last summer nights on my rooftop. Want to see people close to me who are recovering from illnesses, littl'uns who have just gotten their first tooth and old chums who are going through a may be less restful time in their lives.
So.
I'LL BE BACK.
(Who was is that said that again? Rambo?)
