Blommelstein Try-out weekend
After a long drive with too much coffee and too many traffic jams, we finally arrived at the beautiful camping spot in Auby sur Semois. It's located alongside the river Semois and surrounded by hilly woodland. I was a little surprised (stupidly so and a fun moment for Anne-Beth to see the surprised look in my eyes) to see that there were so many families with kids (duh, it was a school holiday). Camping Maka is a tiny campsite with 100 campingspots max and ample provisions for the basic camper's needs. The owners, a friendly couple with their children, were very helpful especially as I found out that half of the stuff I needed was either not functioning or I had completely forgotten about. Oh and those fresh croissants every morning...yum.
Blommelstein made quite an impression on bystanders, so Blom and I were pretty proud of our new mobile home, by some called a true collector's item. After a bit of trial and error with the tent, the larger shade and the little window shades (very cool indeed) we found out we had a gas leak and the water supply wasn't functioning. Sabine's little pressie (an oven) turned out to be very useful indeed and we ate homemade pizza (how luxurious) for two days. Anne-Beth turned out to be very helpful as my personal camping technical/aid/cook/assistant, or better still, friend*, most of the time but some of her actions turned out to be pretty 'blonde'...buying sunflower oil in stead of olive oil (yuk), buying a black pepper mill which just turned out to be black pepper (no mill), trying to connect the electricity supply to the wrong exit (the car connection)...Of course I am NOT listing all the stupid things I've done....Anyway, Anne-Beth and I made a long, long list of things I still need before I go on my long trip to the Northcape, which varies from an axe (in case I want to take on the role of a Scandinavian axe slaying murderer) to...scissors!
*I think most of the campers out there thought we must be lesbians being the only pair of women without kids and being too cuddly and caring for a dog, but no one dare ask. Anne-Beth would of course tease me by stroking my head while we were walking out and about.
Finally, I almost killed Blom....she was hiding underneath the caravan as I was connecting it to the car; I did something stupid, the caravan moved down to the ground and Blom was hit by an iron beam. Hilarious, you may think, but had Anne-Beth not acted as the speed of light, I would probably have traveled Scandinavia on my own. Or not at all. But luckily, my 12-year old buddy is fine and will be with us for a long time to come, I made her promise. Her response: stop being so stupid then, ye idiot.
