We arrived in Byron Bay friday night and stayed at cape byron lodge. On the saturday we headed into the centre of the hippy town and looked around the many souvenir shops and dodged the showers ( everyone had said how nice it had been for the last 2 weeks and we arrived to showers!) however they cleared up and we managed to sit on the beach in the sun at last! In the evening we decided to go out and were going to head to a bar but then some crazy irish people convinced us to go to cheeky monkeys, which seems to be a popular bar with the english! The night started with free champagne and as it was "ladies night" ana amateur male strip show involving lots of desperate, drunk male backpackers trying to win a bar tab! But it was a fun night out dancing on the tables as we bumped into a girl we made friends with in port mac!
Had a bit of a lie in and then got convinced into having a surfing lesson by an english guy living at the hostel! The weather was pretty rubbish again so we decided we might as well have a go so we got picked up and taken to a place called shaws bay where we got wetsuited up and shown the whole surfing marlarkey on the beach and then paddle out into the middle to catch the waves! The waves looked pretty poor but then once u got pushed into them and got paddling they were pretty good, megan managed to stay up quite gracefully whilst helen got up and then continued to plunge head first into the water soon after! It was worth a go though...
On the monday we left for surfers paradise...
