Wow - can't believe its been nearly a month since we arrived, its gone so quickly! so what have we been doing ........
On the night of the 23/9 we caught the night bus with 13 other volunteers to Mombasa on the Kenyan coast. The ride was terrible - 9 hours squashed together driving through the night in a bus that wasn't built for comfort on the worst roads possible! at last we arrived in Mombasa and took the ferry across to the coastal side and then a matatu to the area of Mombasa called Diani beach. There we meet up with 2 other volunteers so there were 15 of us! We all spent a lovely long weekend sunbathing, swimming, and a morning on a glass bottom boat snorkelling off a sand bank! A weekend of heaven! The sun was shining and the sea was like a bath! Expect for one storm during which we had to walk home across the beach from a bar in the dark and rain! we didn't want to come back and the 3 of us that are still in kenya for new year have decided that mombasa is where we're going to spend it!
Monday night we prepared ourselves for the coach journey back having sacrificed the train for saving money and having an extra day! while waiting for the coach we had dinner in a cafe and steve had a cut throat shave! we we're plescently suprised by the coach journey back - there were less seats so it was less squashed and the seats even reclined and the road back seemed like a different road it was so less bumpy then our return journey!
We arrived back in Thika tues morning and went to the school for the day - the children missed steve who is most defently their favourite - i might have to start bribing them with sweets!
Tues night poor little me was struck down with vomitting quickly followed by diarrhoea! i then spent the next 2 days in bed feeling sorry for myself while steve went to school!
Friday i was feeling a bit better but not 100% so steve went to another volunteers house to go out with some volunteers while annelise (another volunteer staying in our house) watched a film.
On sat annelise and i travelled into nariobi to meet steve and some other volunteers so go to the masi market to buy! its starting to worry me that even though i have another 6 months here im already stacking up my sourviners! sat afternoon we went to a pub in the hilton hotel in nariboi! sat night we stayed just outside of nariobi at another host familys and then travelled back to Thika sunday morning.
on sunday steve played a football match for the thika team he's training with! he lasted 40 mins which i was impressed at in the heat! annelise and i watched and its a lot faster than english football and a lot less physical tackerling which is good!
tonight annelise and i are cooking dinner - spag bog!
hope you are all well and enjoying yourselves!
lots of love to all xx xx
