Glastonbury, UK
Day 1 completed! Plane, train, the underground, train, train, train, taxi and a 3.8 km walk ... Then some sight seeing!
After a long plane ride, we know have to somehow find our way around this huge airport... When know we need the express train to London. But when we had to get tickets it was a mess... So many different lines for tickets. There was a help desk but the girl that was helping people got a phone call and had to go... Ended up getting the right tickets and finding the right platform and off we went (sitting backwards) there was a nice polish family behind us that rob was talking too. Then we all were talking (English) we got to Victoria station and walked outside. This was robs first look of London! Sooo nice! But we had to find the underground! But thank-god this nice lady on the plane gave us some instructions on how to get around. Went down to the underground and started looking at a map on the platform. A man overheard us and told us we need to be on the other side ... So we went back up, around, and back down to the right side... Went we got to paddtin station we needed to figure out how to use our britrail passes. We were pointed in a detection to a long slow line... I got rob to hang in the line as I went to see if this was the proper line to be in. Went the next room over to find that this was the spot to be and got our tickets verified and asked the man what train we need to be on. Platform 8 and the train will be leaving in 5 min...!!!! Graded rob from the other line and told him " we need to run!" He jumped out of line and we ran to platform 8 (amazing race style) got on the train and after walking through what seemed like 5 cars finally found seats. This was going to be a long ride (1.5 hours) so I took a nap on rob. He then wakes me up to tell me that we need to get of and take our next train. We get off and start following everyone... We then realize that we got off the train too early... And know have to wait for the next one. 15 min we are back on our train. We get off at the right station (Bath) and have to wait for 30min for our connecting train. We found this nice little cafe on the platform and had a coffee and shared a sandwich (first food since the plane) .We get back on the train and continue. This train was much smaller but even busier. A nice older man started talking to us. He pointed out some land marks for us too look at. ( a white horse on a hill). Too bad he didn't know why it was put there :P we got off at the same station and wished us well and we were on our way again. We then took a taxi to Street (30min) we finally got to our hotel.. (Looked nice on they web page) Drooped our stuff off and then walked 3.8 km to Glastonbury. On the walk we saw cows and snails. Once in the town we noticed that everything was closed or closing ( 5:00) we continued walking and found an Abby that was still open. Payed £7 and walked in. It was so cool! I felt like I was in Diablo walking around all the ruins! We then found out that apparently king Author was buried there which is pretty cool! I love seeing all of this old stuff! After the Abby we continued walking. Then we wanted to find a place to eat... Went to one place that was kind of busy but we were not feeling the crowd (old people) then we tried a different place found a table and waited for a bit, but no one was coming to our table so we left. Went to another place we walked by and again found a table, but the bartender told us that they don't sever food. He told us to go to this other place that we had to turn right and walk through a ally and turn left then walk up a hill... Surprisingly we found the place. We had an good meal. Then we started our walk back to the Wessex hotel.
