It's now less than a week until I go. The last days in Oxford for nine months, and then I'm here permanently (to all intents and purposes) for another four years. It feels a bit extreme.
I find myself wondering about the most absurd things. How much will the kitten have grown when I get back? Will the coalition have collapsed? Will there be the same staff at Branca? Procrastinatory thinking. Recently I heard on the radio that people aren't afraid of traveling, they're afraid that when they come back some part of them will have changed or died and they won't fit into the place that used to be their home. That seemed pretty accurate to me.
Being ill gave me too much time to worry and not enough time to be excited. In view of combating this I went out and purchased everything travel sized I could find. Probably going to return most of it. Now the panic has subsided a bit I realise that "travel tooth floss" is probably just LESS tooth floss. And also I'm pretty sure minty string is allowed in any quantity on airplanes.
