Sorry for not updating for a while - the internet connection is dia and there are frequent power cuts which makes interneting almost impossible. I've tried about five different occasions to update; either the power goes or the PCs just switch themselves off mid blog! Very frustrating.
Lots to catch up on! From Chancho we got to Bahir Dar. It took us about 8hrs (?) by minibus (a stop on the way after the driver decided to open the cap to the water tank and dumped all the water! So, as anticipated, we had to stop about 5k later to get the temperature back down. It took us a good 10mins to convince them that first we need to switch off the ignition and secondly to let the engine cool before topping it up with water!!!!).
We arrived at the Ghion Hotel. They told us they had no rooms but could we wait 10mins? 1hr and half later we discovered that they had made us up a mattress on the floor in a conference room. We declined their kind offer and then was subjected to manager beating up a member of staff. This really upset me, we were so hungry and tired that I just cried.....hey presto we got a room.
The Ghion Hotel is set on the shore of Lake Tana. It was great to be near water. The lake is massive and takes two days to cross. We took a boat ride and visited some monastries. The paintings inside dipict violant scenes of what happen to people if they are none believers, like decapitating heads...very Christian like!
On the way back we sailed to the mouth of the Blue Nile where we were lucky to see a hippo. I have a photo but the computers here just can't cope with uploading photos.
More soon x
